Another from the way back files.I think this one was done in 1987 or 88.
This project was a group effort when I used to work for Magna Advanced research and development in Richmond Hill Ontario.
I think it belonged to a friend of the Boss's in Michigan.
Locked diffs and a 305 V-8.Only the rear tailgate is original.Everything else was re-fabricated.

Very nice fab work, gotta love the tires too. I had thought one of my former local oil companies was alone in fabbing jeeps. When I lived in NY, the local oil owners sold the company and auctioned everything after at least 10 years out of business. Among the various garages were three early CJ's that had every panel in the bodies replaced with 1/16" thick plate, much of which was diamond plate bent in what could only be assumed was a monster of a press. I believe they were used soley for snow removal, but didnt bid because I wondered about the condition of the Jeep drivetrain under what must have been ~4000 lb bodies.

Just and FYI, that's not a US Army Jeep. My guess was CJ2a or CJ3a, and the license plate confirms that.

Military Jeeps didn't have tailgates and they had indents below the doors for tools like shovels and picks.

Funny how certain things job your memories. I was playing around with 4x4 stuff in the late 80's too and those Goodyear Terra Tires were all the rage. I saw those tires and a flood of memories about trying to acquire, fit and run those tires on different projects came to mind. Thanks for posting.

It is a 68 v6, pretty nice setup so far. Not really streetable, the previous owner put in 5.38s and a detroit in the rear. Should be great for deer season.

What part of Florida was that taken at? I swear I think I saw that one in the parking field at the Lakeland Air Show a few years ago.

This thread reminded me of the old M151's We had back in the 90's when I was stationed at Lejeune. they were pretty heavily modified and used as throw aways when deployed in places we may need one but not have the ready ability to take it back. It really hurt me to place the WP grenades and walk away from them when we were done. The motor pool, reworked the engines a bit and put Rancho suspensions on them. Other than that, they were pretty much stock.
