...many moons later, here is the recently completed screwdriver drawer. I went 'round and 'round on what brand since I had an old hodge-podge previously. I don't know that I did the right thing by going with the Facom Ergotwist. The handles feel very good; I prefer hard handles. The first batch of them I got by a mistaken price listing, and they were really cheap. The next batch was on ebay, and they were too much. The final batch was from Steve at Ultimate Garage and were priced right in the middle. But they're discontinued, so I won't be able to get replacements in the future. Steve sells bags of five Phillips #2 for cheap, so at least I won't run out of those.
I hated to "waste" a 3 1/2" drawer depth, but that's all that was available in the 36" width. So I elevated the front row to make them easier to grab, though as with the other drawers, you can grab anything (except the two extra long slotted's) without touching the felt.

DPS your stuff looks good.
FYI I was at harbor freight and they sell some stuff in a bottle called Rack Repair (i think). It's a vinyl or rubber coating that you can just paint on, in case the coating on your racks start to peel off. It's like plasti-dip, but in a much smaller bottle, and it has a brush applicator.

I cant wait until my bottom cart arrives....this thread has given me some great ideas. I hope I can do a good of a job, (those drawers looks freaking amazing)!! Very nice DPS! My hat is off to you!
Thanks guys! Terabyte, I've been waitin' for your next entry on that thread to see how everything cleaned up and worked out for you. I don't know if I'll have the patience to do every tool; I'm going to see what I can do with screwdriver drawer #2 that will have the more usual mish-mash of stuff, but there are just a few miscellaneous drawers I can't imagine doing. It's very easy and cheap to do, but does take some time.

I was looking for some foam to use for a similar project and ran into the foamcore stuff but it was so thin I quickly dismissed it as a viable option for my particular application. I never even thought of laminating the stuff into thicker sheets.

Thanks everyone. Tex, this pic will hopefully show how they lay in the drawer. The long center strip is just 2 layers of 1/4" foamcore laminated, with slots cut into it for the screwdriver shafts to rest in. It was then covered in the felt on two sides and the top and then double-sided tape on the bottom of it to hold it to the base layer of the drawer. The handle end starts with two layers for the whole length of the drawer and then has a third layer added where the screwdriver handles go from full sized to mid sized. You can see the "bump" up one level in the pic. It has a fourth layer added under the handles that are the small sized. This keeps the shafts of all the drivers at the same height, which I thought looked better and only added a minute to the construction time.
KCarGuy, I, too, thought the blue worked real well, but it also looks really good with most of the colors that look good on a pool table, deep green, purple, red, and at least to me, there's a real hot magenta though it could get tiring on the eyes just like those pink pool tables do. But a dark color probably makes sense for dirt.
Case, I don't know how anybody could do this except for themselves as everybody would have different drawers, tools, and preferred layouts.

Hey dps, great drawer! I am so inspired by your work that I am thinking about making my own drawer and use felt to create something you did there.
I have one question: After reading all the post here I was unable to find any info on the felt itself. Do you know where you bought the felt and what model number it was?
I looked at Amazon but I am afraid to buy something that could be hard to work with.

Much as I admire them (and I do identify with your love of how tools look, as I'm a big fan of industrial design - and hand tools, such as wrenches, really are the epitome of industrial design!), I know I could never use a box like that on a daily basis, as a pro user. I like to keep mine as tidy as possible, but it needs to be a bit more industrial than that...
The screwdrivers I like especially like. I have some Facom stuff with those handles; two extra long Philips (2 and 3 I think, I'd have to check), a little stubby Philips and a little stubby flat, and also a handle that accepts 1/4" hex shanks, which has a bunch of 150mm double ended shanks; philips (1,2,3), flat (5,7), and torx (10,15,20,25). I'd really like a dedicated PH4 with that handle, and a hex "nut" at the handle end to grip with a wrench to aid turning - is that hat the far right bottom row driver is?

Sure, I'll revive my own old thread to answer a couple of old questions! 
The screwdriver Matt asked about is a AZPH 4 x 200. I think I've only used it on some old Ford door hinges.
To vela, the felt is available at any fabric store; it's cheap, comes in colors, and is very easy to work with. It will stretch into compound curves and its fuzziness makes it easy to cover all the joins at edges of different pieces. You can use an awl or needle to "pick" at the fuzz to bend it around the corners and fluff it up. I imagine The Donald does something similar to his hair for coverage...

thanks for keeping this thread alive - never would have seen this masterful work otherwise. Great drawers, man! I'm jealous, but don't think I could ever devote that much effort into a project like this. I just use various organizational trays and holders, and it's worked out great, but I'm just not as meticulous as you. Thanks for sharing!
