pin vise discussion

Funny, i just posted this in the tools you made thread...I wanted Starrett, but couldn't find any for a decent price. I needed one so I made this. Jacobs chuck is 1/16 to 3/8 cap, Loctited into a wood file handle.

I like that, may ned to make me one ! I may need to clarify that the ones I'm talking about are small clamping devices to hold small parts while drilling or filing, etc.

I did the same as dave, but mine is keyless. came off a battery drill that was junked.

Oops! I thought you were talking about holding small round objects, like tiny drill bits. I guess you are looking for something like the Lee Valley item.

I made one out of a bowling ball cut in half with a small vise mounted on the flat side. The curved side sat in a round hoop I welded up using 1 3/4" exhaust scraps. My wife used this while engraving guns, knives and motorcycle parts in the 80s. While she was very good at engraving, it was not her thing and we sold the setup to someone several years ago.

I received the pin vise that Jeremy v linked above. for $15 it was a great deal. Only thing is I wish I had ordered one 20% better for $35 or $40, if such exists. Really neat little tool. Works fine, could be manufactured to a little tighter tolerances and it would feel a lot better to use. But, not slamming it, it is a great little pin vise, and for $15 is a good deal.
