Wore out the ratcheting mechanism? Damn.
Own a triangle file?
I've filed the teeth to sharper edges, but it's the hold/release lever that wears out and rounds over, so they won't hold tight anymore. I'd thought about drilling out the rivet, weld a dot on there and filing it down, but that's too much work versus picking up another pair for $14 and moving on.

I've probably gone through a couple of these pliers per year changing block heaters and fuel filters on generators and other equipment. They start going bad and will either endlessly slow leak or just pop loose, either way it's a mess!

Fair enough. I have no idea how the ratchetless style lasts, as mine don't see anywhere near the use that yours obviously does.

I have a set of 3 similar to this. I don't remember where I bought them or the brand but they were inexpensive and have worked well for about 20 years.

Looks like I'll be finding out how long they hold up, had this box show up earlier this week and already put them to work a dozen times. The little ones have been awesome for fuel lines.
