I'm finishing up a 30 x 40 metal building, and planning to cool (and heat, as occasionally needed) it with two Pioneer mini-split units: a 24k, 17 SEER unit for the main space, and a 9k, 22 SEER unit for an enclosed area at the back. I'm not sure this is going to have any new information for anyone, but in case it does...

Obligatory pick of units on trailer:

The building framing doesn't give a great deal of support for the air handlers, so I put pieces of 3/4" plywood in place, fastened to the frame members with #12 sheet metal screws.

The outside units went on precast pads on a bed of gravel.

I had plumbers working on the shop anyway, so I had them run the outside lineset. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of the evacuation process. Lineset cover is from highseer, like the units. The same set appears to be available from several places, but highseer.com had the lowest price I saw.

Need to Dremel out that bottom elbow for clearance for the drain line.

The wiring is pretty ghetto right now:

The electrician was supposed to have this done last week; I got tired of waiting for him. But it will in due course be done up to code.

So far, it seems to do a nice job cooling the building. I'll have to see over time, of course, but I'm happy so far.
