Pioneer mini split settings / question

I installed an 18k pioneer DIY unit a few months ago.
Overall I am very happy with it.

However, I am confused about how it functions and wondered if anyone had any experience / input.

I have it set on 75F. Currently, my shop is 73. However, the unit is running at low speed and putting out cool air. I do have the “follow me” feature enabled on the remote, which is across the room, and is reading 73F (as well as a couple other thermometers I have in the shop).

Why would it still be cooling when the set point is above the current temp? I’ve been through the manual and can’t find anything.

Thanks

Are you sure the compressor is running? The fan will continue to operate even after the set point is reached, blowing room-temperature air. Compressor might still be operating at low speed in an attempt to match output with heat gain, but the logic might be a little "off" resulting in overshooting your chosen temperature slightly. I have a 24k Mr. Cool unit in my garage, which I believe is the same as your Pioneer with a different name on it, and this is the behavior I've observed. I keep it set at 72 but sometimes it will get down to 70 according to its own thermostat before shutting the compressor off. The fan will still run.

Yeah - it’s running (fan turning outside, and air coming from the inside unit is sub-50F)

Maybe the internal thermostat is not accurate. However, if I log into the app right now it says indoor temp is 74, set at 75, and I am getting cool air blowing right now…

I'm guessing it's just "fuzzy" programming - if it was 73 earlier and is now 74 then it's staying "around" your set point which is "good enough" for most people.

At least on my Mr Cool, you can go in the app and calibrate the thermostat if the set point is differenr fron actual room temp. The blower runs all the time, whether the condenser is running or not

Makes sense... on my Ecobee t-stats, I can adjust how sensitive they are (forget the term for the setting)

I will have to look into the app a bit more. The blower on mine does not run if the condenser isn't running.

A neat trick if you find one app better than the other, you can use a Mr. Cool wi-fi adapter in a Pioneer and a Pioneer wi-fi adapter in a Mr. Cool. I know this works, and am currently controlling both a Mr. Cool and a Pioneer with the Pioneer app. Ended up with two different brands due to stock issues, but absolutely did not want to have to control them with two different apps.

Syberia-

Thanks for the info.
What do you like better about the Pioneer app? I have not tried the Mr Cool one, but don't find the Pioneer one ("Nethome plus") all that great.

Since I plan on installing about 5 more on my house, the Pioneer app lets me turn them on and off from the main screen without clicking them individually. I couldn't find that feature on the Mr. Cool one.

On my pioneer, and my fujitsu, i have: heat, cool, auto settings. I NEVER use the auto feature. Reason is i found when either split is on auto, the window for temperature changes widens greatly. So say its on auto, and set to 72, neither split will turn on until it’s almost 76. Or say it chills down in the house, sometimes neither will turn on until its well below 72. I also noticed the fan speeds are more subtle when on auto. The splits are simply to slow to react for my comfort when on ‘auto’.

if its summer, i have it set on cool, if shoulder season like now, i don’t really don’t use them for heat, but sometimes when taking the chill off, i’ll make sure to set the splits to heat.

i feel the manufacturers do this to the splits for a reason. If they cooled, or heated as aggressively in ‘auto’ when on cool or heat, i think the splits would constantly be bouncing the reversing valve from heat to cool to heat to cool Under the auto setting.

so basically in short, make sure your split is set to either cool when warm outside, or heat if chilly outside. Let the split only react to one side of the temp range. Don’t leave it at ‘auto’.

Mini splits do have an internal temp sensor -- the only way this will work is for the fan to be on all the time. Obviously -- with the unit higher in a room it's going to see warmer temps vs what you may see and feel lower in the room ......... this is why you don't want them too high in a space with high ceilings. When you use the "follow me" or "temp in the remote" settings --- the idea is that the remote is now the room temp (or wall with some). It may or may not work that way. Most of the Minis have "intelligence" built into them and you look at them and say ......... what are you doing? Does your unit have any humidity control .... are you adding in other items on the remote?

How much does it "over cool" before it stopes ..... it may be programed to do this. When using the internal temp it can modulate based on the incoming air ... it may or may not being doing this. Mitsubishi gets around this by using an "eye" that is watching the room ...

Playing around with my LG, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi units over the years ... they just seem to work better as intended ..... using the internal temp sensor. My LG will fully stop and close shop when the remote sensor is used .... then it opens and blasts away.

@yeldogt Yes - I’ve been observing all those things.
I have 10’ ceilings in the shop, the unit is mounted within the manual specs, but in heat mode right now the unit is seeing warmer air than what a small thermometer across the room sees (as you mentioned, the unit sensor is in the airflow of the intake).

Does anyone know what the differential is for these Pioneer units? (Not 100% sure that is the right term - i.e, If set for heat at 70, how far below 70 before the heat kicks on?).

Also, does anyone know about how the follow me feature works? The remote is IR - it has to be pointed at an in line of sight of the unit in order to make changes. But, is this how the follow me feature communicates temp back to the indoor head? Or, can I leave it around a corner and have it still communicate? I’ve tried to fiddle with this but have not been able to determine if “follow me” works outside line of sight.

Thanks,

My pioneer inverter just keeps cooling no matter what the "follow me" remote is set at. I can set it to 72 degrees and I come backlater and it is still blowing out cold air and the temperature in the room is 66. Is there a way to reset the system so they talk to each other? It had this problem before and then it started working, but then it stopped. We've got a heat wave coming and I need to be sure the house is cool but not icy for the cats while we're out of town for a couple of days.
