I just bought the 60 gallon Kobalt compressor and now I am trying to plumb it up. I used the gray pipe sealant (had some already) and it does not appear to be drying. It's been on there for 36 hours and it is still wet to the touch. I have not put air to yet. the hardware guy says it takes a long time for the stuff to dry, but I can put the air to it now.

Any ideas?

I thought that the stuff never really fully dried...

I use the heavier yellow teflon tape for gas lines. That seems to work the best for me. If you are having problems, you might want to give it a try...

The purpose of any connecting compound or tape is two fold,
First to lubricate the thread as it is brought up and eliminate galling, and
Second, to fill in the minor imperfections in the surface of the engaged threads.
You never really want to see a cut thread under magnification unless you want to scare yourself.

Any pipe dope that squeezes out can be wiped off because it doesn't perform any function. Bring the threaded joynt up to proper torque and it will be fine.

"gray pipe sealant" Was this some kind of joint sealer or plumbers putty?

I've been under our kitchen sink for "a long" time attempting to remove all drips, and my collection of goops is still growing.

bondo & franz@ are right on .. in a nut shelll........ pipe dope is a lube and so is tape. pipe threads are tapered. you can put pipe together dry and it should't leak. I don't advise you do this .I'am pipefitter by trade, i use dope on the first 4 threads then i tape the threads. the reason to this maddness... i have to wrench pipe together 8 hours aday for 25 more years. make it easy on yourself ,it makes in nice and the fitting are easier to spot plus the tape on the outside makes it cleaner to work with . TURN TO THE RIGHT TO MAKE IT TIGHT & PIPE THE LIVE" daye
