Looking for pipe jaws for my Columbian vise. I guess Wilton is the place to get them but not sure I got the correct part number. Awfully expensive. I saw them on Tools Direct p/n 10403S46 (at least I think I got the correct p/n).

Is this correct? Know of a different place to get them? eBay blows. Craigslist not good in my area nor Facebook market place.

Thanks! Hope everyone is doing well!!

They've discontinued the Columbian line so anywhere you can find them is probably lucky. I've never seen those pipe jaws for sale anywhere.

What's wrong with eBay? Great resource for parts.

I buy stuff off of eBay regularly but...

I’ve looked on eBay for a good while now but the parts are not on there. At least for the last year they haven’t. I have something else. I’m working on too for the last year and a half. can’t find parts for it either. it’s not something I need to do some work with so it can wait.

I should clarify the other project can wait not my vise pipe jaws. I worked on projects in the last 2 weeks that I need the pipe jaws and didn’t have them.

See if the Yost 31c pipe jaws are close enough in size

https://www.yostvises.com/3-1-2-combination-pipe-and-bench-vise-swivel-base.ht

Look under the prints tab for the pipe jaw dimensions

The problem is pipe jaw sets are big and take a lot of tool steel, thus they take a lot of time to machine and the material costs a lot. Our now retired vise jaw maker gave up making them because they cost a lot and people wanted them cheap. I needed to make one of three jaws for a 4.5" combo vise and I passed on doing it. The cost of the A2 tool steel + heat treat without machining would have cost move than the vise.

The link was broken. Which/size were you looking at and I’ll look there?

If I bought the Wilton jaws I would have paid as much as the vice for them.

Thanks for the reminder. Milwaukee (Morgan) sent me their list of pipe vise jaws. The difference between the "old style" and "new style" is the old style had one V clamp on each jaw and the new style has two V clamps on each jaw like as shown in the photo. Sadly, old style jaws are no longer available for older Milwaukee vises.

See the attached photo for dimensions.

Like what tool_scrounge mentioned, these pipe jaws if built the right way are expensive. I have seen some make them out of CRS and they look fine but will get destroyed fairly easy. I like A2 toolsteel heat treated to 54/56 rockwell.
I have come up with a way to make them fairly easy if you tilt the block at 14 degrees then you can cut the teeth with the corner of a endmill. I made this master to scale larger or smaller to fit your pocket dimensions. I am happy to share the geometry. Guys you don't buy vises with missing pipe jaws and expect to find a set in a couple weeks. There is so many vises with pipe jaws and each is a different design but redesigning the teeth wit the 14 degree angle will work for you. The 1/2" dowell pin is how I pick up the pipe jaws and set the cutter on the top of the pin. This 205 did not have pipe jaws but I was given a pipe jaw to copy. I added a soft spacer in the rear to adjust the length of the pipe jaw.

The jaws are in pretty decent shape and I’m not going to be needing them yet so that’s good. But I’m going to measure my opening for the pipe jaws. Those I need.

If I every get my Wilton, I’m going to dabble in really restoring it (the Columbian) to get my teeth wet. Not really worth restoring but if I mess it up it’s ok.

As an aside how do they put the handle end that goes through the screw? Heating it and then form it?

Thanks Scrounge! I’ll check my dimensions against these too.

Yes I wished I would have checked when I bought it. It’s definitely a lesson learned. I also paid more than what it was worth. So it’s a double lesson learned.
