Pipe/Tube Bender

So i want to make my girlfriend a saddle(horses) rack for her birthday. I was thinking a three high free standing rack. each rack would look like this...

So the question. could i get by with a cheapo harbor freight bender?

Its a probably a one time use thing since i dont really have a use for it right now.

Will it work?

If your making it out of PIPE that bender will bend it. I can't tell if the other racks are pipe or tube from the picture. However you can buy 3 of them for less than you can buy the pipe bender that you say you have no other use for... Additionally the pipe bender will not bend tight radius bends like are shown on the pre-made rack. I would get 3 of the racks and make a stand for them....

I'm sure you are aware, that these pipe benders perform marginally on DOM. The really cheap units won't even bend pipe well. You can forget about making that 180 degree bend in the saddle rack with that machine.

That said, some folks have had marginal success at bending tubing with a pipe bender. I guess like many things it's a matter of skill, luck and determination.

Tube bender plans are available all over the net. If you can weld and invest some time, you could build a good bender.

I didnt even look at the price, i think thats a better idea though, a stand should be the easiest part

goodfellow: good call on making one. Im halfway decent with a welder i will look into making one.
