Do you plan on using them everyday? If you only plan on using them around the house now and then, like most of us, I personally think most any pipe wrench will work fine. I've used cheap ones and they always got the job done. With that said, I replaced most of them with Ridgid wrenches, mostly because I enjoy having quality tools.

Superior Tool makes nice pipe wrenches and they cost less than Ridgid (some I have bought for half the cost of Ridgid). They are made in Spain and carry a lifetime warranty.

I have used Ridgid and Reed pipe wrenches for many years. When the going gets tough or you need to apply a cheater bar, you can depend on the Ridgid wrenches to get the job done.

had a job where i needed a pipe wrench in a tight spot on a unit underneath..........tried a brandnew westward and the pos could get a bite at all................grabbed an old no name wrench from the bottom of the box i was working out of and no prob............westward ***** s(*& in my opinion for pipewrenches..........and impact universals and torque wrenches, all of which have failed in normal use the first or second time ........the latter two resulted in injuries to myself...........i hate **** tools.............

Ridgid is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the pipe wrench world.

Reed, Hood, Rothenberger and Lennox are also good names.

You can buy a used Ridgid on Craigslist, E-bay, or at the pawnshop for way less than new and they still have the lifetime warranty. I got a set of aluminum 14, 18, 24, and 36 for $70 from a widow that was tired of tripping over them in the garage.

For the larger sizes, I'd be looking to pay the extra and upgrade to aluminum wrenches. I've got a couple of steel Ridgid's. If I need to buy more or larger ones, they'll be aluminum.
