Pistol grip needle scaler vs pneumatic hammer?

I'm in the market for either one or both of these tools as it may be that a pistol grip style needle scaler can double as a pneumatic hammer just by switching out the "needles" for different attachments such as a chisel.

If that is the case, could I not just buy a decent pistol grip needle scaler along with other attachments instead of having to also purchase an air hammer?

Will be using it mostly to remove weld slag, paint and rust as well as shear sheetmetal and whatever other uses I can find for it.

Will something like this serve me well?

Depending on the level,or rust or paint you are looking to remove, they make needle scaler attachments that go right onto air hammers.
I have a couple and they work fairly well, or at least they have in my applications.
They are cheap and so that is where I would start if you have a decent air hammer.
Part of how well they work is based on how good (strong) your air hammer is.

I have also used pro level needle scalers (bigger/better that what you showed there. Which is really an air hammer with a conversion kit on it already) and they work insanely well. As you can imagine they are much more expensive

I bought a $100 IR straight scaler a long while back. In the end I found my $20 HF pneumatic air chisel held limp writed using a dull pointed tip ran circles around the thing. Wayyyy less air use as well. That that scaler just doesn’t impress me. My only issue with the air chisel is that it leaves lots of little dimples in the surface .

Just found this thread while looking into a scaler attachment for my Blue Point AT2050....do you have any recommendations? Snappy offers the PH201....but it's $375 and on back order. I would be using it infrequently. Thanks in advance.

I bought an Ingersoll Rand needle scaler attachment that fits on an air hammer . it only cost about $35. I put it on a cheap air hammer.

Ended up getting the IR attachment, tried it out today on a crusty brake rotor....works about as well as expected.
