Hi All
Who made the pistol grip screwdriver for Snap-on?

I have had one for years. Bought it for my wife to work on computers with. She didn't like it, so I ended up with it. It's okay but I use my T-handle more often.

While I prefer these older hard plastic screwdriver handles to the newer Instinct series, I really like the 5-position instinct ratcheting screwdriver over the old pistol style.

Doubt very much that they have their own plastic moulding facility.
The moulding for their handles isn't very complex...

That being said, they would likely outsource only the plastic component, and further manufacturing would be done to assemble the end item.

I had read that Williams made the ratcheting screwdrivers for Snapon, but couldn't find where they had actually made the pistol version. Great first post huh???

I had one sitting in my box for the last 15 years until someone on this forum bought it. I wasn't a fan of it at all.

Ugh, not what I wanted to hear. I had the straight model from my years working in a shop. I don't work much on cars, but have tendinitis. My thought was the pistol grip might help. I saw one on fleabay and went look g for my straight Snapon model. I then realized my straight model was broken in one direction. I tried to win a new Snapon pistol grip, but bailed at $65 shipped. Then, two new auctions showed up, both new in the package.

It used to be, I'd jump on a Buy it Now because I had to have it. Age teaches you a few things. I made offers, but in the end still probably paid too much. It's orange and I should have it by Monday. I'm sure folks collect them, but I'll tear it open and use it.

If I still worked in a shop, I wouldn't buy orange. But for home use, I love the color. Anyone over 40 will tell you, you can keep your camo pocket knives and black anything. Bright colors all the way!

If you want a new straight one, buy a williams, which is made by snap on for 35 bucks. I bought a milwaukee fuel screw gun and bought a few cheap rolgear screwdrivers. Best bang for the buck drivers. Real tool reviews just did a review on them.

Ha! I ordered that last Thursday. Won't ship for at least a week though. I also grabbed a Megapro and have to say I'm impressed. 28 teeth, feels better in my hand than my straight Snapon and the bit storage system is nice. I'm anxious to try the Williams.

I also tried a Tactix, which has what looks like a golf putter handle. I prefer that to a T handle. Though not on the level of the Megapro and Snapon, the Tactix seems decent, so we'll see.

I have several of the straight ratcheting Snap On screwdrivers, extreme long reach, regular and a stubby, they are my go to screwdriver set. I love them. As for the pistol grip, where I used to work before retiring they had them and I hated them, just a unnatural way of twisting your wrist, plus when you are working on a stubborn fastener trying to loosen it you can not keep full force on the screwdriver and you end up stripping the head of the fastener. Tried them and did not like them. I also do not use the stubby except on fasteners that are really tight areas.

After almost 45 years of working with my hands as a aviation mechanic you end up with strong preferences.

Thanks. Yeah, the awkward angle is something that concerns me. I though the handle would give better leverage, but the angle seems awkward. I guess I'll see how I like it.

Actually the handle will lock in the straight direction and the design is unique but then it becomes to fat to get a good grip on it if you have smaller hands like I have.

Another issue is the fact the handle will unlock when in the straight direction if any amount of high torque is applied and I mean if you are twisting they can become a knuckle buster. My employer ended up pulling them from toolboxes after several mechanics ended up in medical to have their hands sewed up.

I should clarify, I bought the older, fixed handle model. I had read that the swivel handle can unlock and I wasn't playing that game. So I'm trying the fixed pistol grip version.

Nice! Check out the rolgear's as well. No teeth, just a cam. Dan, a member here did a review on them. I own two, and for the 15 bucks, it's awesome.

I second LD's comment on the rolgear. I bought one originally to keep in my home office as I am constantly swapping out parts in my computer workstations etc.. I was never a big ratcheting screwdriver fan but it impressed me enough that I bought another to keep in the shop.

Ratcheting screwdrivers including the handles are made by Snap-On at their Elkmont, AL facility.

Yup, either there or Kenosha, Wisconsin
That's where most of their hand tools are made. (For USA)

They absolutely do. It's in Wisconsin.

Hmm...it looks like Rolgear no longer has the longer bit driver. They only sell the 4" on their site. I do see the 15 in 1 screwdriver on Amazon and might give that a shot. I realize the shorter bits won't work in it, but it might make a nice took for my upstairs office, when I don't like ******* downstairs for a screwdriver. You were talking about the bit driver though, correct?

I saw one site cleared out the 6" version for $10/each. Did these flop?

For myself, I don't own the bit driver just the ratcheting screwdriver but might look to acquire one. Here is the link to the 6" bit driver on the rolgear website.

Hmm...I see the tiles across the center of the page, but the 6" still isn't there. Your link works fine though. Odd. Thanks!

EDIT - no go. Tried to hit Buy for the 6" and it says error.

Yep. The first time I clicked on your link that's what I saw. then I tried it several times after that and it brings up a different page. Shows the same screwdriver and a Buy button. Click on the button and I get an error. I might try from my iPad. Honestly, I'm more interesting in the bit driver anyway.

Just tried on a Apple Mac Pro with Safari and I got Error 404 page not found. Obvious the page buy page is down!!

I had two of the basic straight so ones. I used the snot out of them. No issues. Long ago my wife wanted one. I knew her strength was not the best so I bought her a so sgdmrce 44 . It has a three position handle. She loves it. I have no idea what it is like to use because I'm not allowed to use it. But for sure, I would have use for a permanently bent handle though it would not be used often.
