I'm a newbie to milling, but I'm learning as I go. I have a combo machine, certainly has it's limits, but it is good for me to learn on. I collect a certain type of S+W .22 pistols, and have started to modify them for my own enjoyment. I had a couple of machining operations I wanted to do, and quickly determined that building a jig to securely hold the pistols was worth the effort.

I started with a 6"x6"x1/2" aluminum plate. I attached a block to the back to allow the plate to be held in a milling vise. After the block was attached I put the assembly in the vise, and I ran a cutter on all four sides to make sure it was square to the mill head. As the block will be removed at times I milled index marks on each end to make sure I got it lined up properly when it is reinstalled. I added some slotted alignment blocks, and some hold downs. I'm happy with the way it turned out, but would welcome any suggestions from the experienced machinists.

One of the flat milling operations is installing a different front sight, here I milled the old sight off, cut a slot, and installed the new sight.

The other operation I wanted to perform is on a custom build. I've taken a 6" gun and have cut it down to use the barrel from the compact 3" version. There is a barrel nut that needs to be counter bored into the muzzle. So I took the block off and mounted the jig to an angle plate.

This is the test fit on the pistol with a "threaded adapter" installed for a muzzle accessory...

I am not a machinist but it looks like a well thought out jig which appears to work as intended. Well done.
