If you were going to put together a pit crew style box for working on Domestic vehicles (specifically Chrysler/Fiat) what would you put in it?

The condition is that everything must fit in a box similar to this:

I know the basics, such as 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, and 19mm in short/long sockets (1/4" and/or 3/8" Drive), combo wrenches in the same size, a Philips #1 & #2, Pick Set, Slip Joint Pliers, Side Cutters, 17mm/19mm/21mm Impact Sockets etc.

But what else would be a "must have" for the tool box?

I have a box about that big for carrying around and doing services/general repairs. I have sets of metric and standard sockets ranging from 3/8-3/4 and 8-21. I have 2 double box end wrenches with big offsets for drain plugs, like 12 and 15 on one and 13,16 on the other. I have a set of metric and standard flex head gear wrenches. Full set of screw drivers, a couple of brass drifts, one 32 oz ball peen a couple of chisels and punches, a half round ******* file, flat fine file, and a small round like chainsaw file. theres a couple extensions, probably 2 6" and a 3", a universal or swivel adapter. I like to have a long handle flex head ratchet, and a regular size ratchet. Everything is 3/8. I have one of those fold out nut driver sets and a few torx handles for dash work and sometimes head/tail lights. for pliers, big channel locks, pipe wrench, then standard **** like a couple different size needle nose, diag cutters.... sometimes I'll carry a multimeter, but definately have a test light in there. Keep a bunch of zip ties, electrical tape, a pen, a paper clip or two and glasses in there.... You'll be all set. If you need anything else, bring another box.

If i'm gonna have to pop a tire or two, I carry an impact and a set of impact sockets along.

17mm 1/2 drive for fiat lugs. 27 mm socket with swivel and 4" extension for the oil filter on fiat. I'm changing the oil on my wife's 500 convertible today so I'll keep an eye out for oddball stuff that you might need.

Put everything you think you need in there. Work out of the box a couple times. Figure out what you never use and what you miss not having. Adjust accordingly and you will have a box tailored to your needs. Over the years I have removed more stuff from road box then added.

Thanks for the tips.

Impact Sockets for a battery impact gun out of the box itself and a 1/2" Torque wrench also out of the box, but those are the only two exceptions I want to allow myself as they would not fit anyways.

I forgot about a 24 socket for the new 3.6L's oil cap. The mention of the 27 for the Fiat reminded me.

By the way, how does your wife like the 500?

Wife loves the fiat. She was looking at the mini convertible after she cooked the motor in her cabriolet, but we stopped at the fiat dealer 1/2 mile from the mini dealer, and the 500c POP fit the bill. However, the dealership we bought it from stinks in the service department, and the next nearest dealer is 2 hours away. Pack a 6mm socket for the engine bay fuse box. According to fiat it is not driver serviceable, but the ECM fuse is in there. Find the hex key the dealers forgot to give you if you have a sunroof, and pack a 17mm socket if you have a pop......it is needed to close the top if the motor fails. Did you get the optional spare tire? Some quirks with that too.

I am a automotive apprentice, will be working at a Chrysler/Fiat dealer in a couple of weeks for my 8 month CO-OP, at a Chrysler Sponsored program.

The roll around is ready, but I was thinking of something on the go. So the Pit Crew box is something to do as I have a two drawer Gray Tool's box I want to set up for fun.

thats my 3 drawer craftman i keep with me in the truck. covers most anything ive run into. need to throw in a bigger hammer though as the one i put in there is a bit too small.

sockets in all drives,metric/standard. wrenches up to 1inch, metric up to 16mm wrenches.

pliers, screwdrivers, chisels, tape, wire, special little bits and things. pretty useful for me.

its a general box for me and ive been happy with it. but if your talking a track box, you need to tailor to that car.

I'll say it... The other right . I'm curious too.

Woops.

To be fair, the more rigid clamp like device isn't exactly under the snap ring pliers. Unlike the actual spring like clamping device. :willy_nil
