Hey all - newbie here with a roof pitch question. I'm trying to measure my roof pitch so we can draw plans for our new garage and I'm coming up with somewhere between 4" and 4.5" in 12". I used a tape measure and a level. Is there an industry standard for a manufactured home?

TIA

Well I just measured again in several places from on top and came up with 4.5/12 for the house and 4/12 for the little overhang above the big front window. We are currently trying to draw plans for a garage that will be built in June.

How much could I expect to be charged from an architect for plans? We have no codes out here where we are at but want it all to be done right so we can resell.
I'm thinking that we really don't want to pay anything for an architect but we're having trouble trying to figure out what things will look like after.
We are attaching it to the house and ideally we would make it high enough for a spare room or at least storage up there, but not if it adds too much $$$.
I have found a few garage builder website engines that list cost estimates and that but their options don't line up with what we want/have.

We got our pad poured last fall (at a rate MUCH higher than anticipated) and it measures 33'wide and 33' deep.
We are also trying to figure out how we would add different roof styles without screwing things up or making it incredibly difficult to tie into the house roof.

How do I add pictures to my posts?

You are coming up with a 4/12 pitch.
That is petty much standard for all current construction

I would do at least 6/12. Mine is 4/12 but I didn't know about pitches when built. 6/12 give you more room and roof last longer from what I've read. If wanting a room upstairs, might need 8/12. Search pitch on this site for lots of info.

I've always used a 5:12 pitch on all my structures. This works and looks good for roof applications in my area that has little winter snow and frequent high winds throughout the year. It is also easy to work on top of w/o sliding off the roof.

6:12 is about the walkable limit for roofing without toe boards. A 10:12 with attic trusses will give a huge room upstairs. Matching your house is a pretty good bet though, it will make the structures look more architecturally similar.

This indicates the garage will be attached to the house, yes? Are you planning on blending the new garage roof directly into the house roof, or will the new garage roof be at a lower height than the house roof and go into the side of the house?

Obviously, if the two roofs are to blend into each other you want the exact same pitch. If the garage is at a different elevation a *slight* difference in pitch may not be enough to be noticeable.

It will be an attached garage. I think I read somewhere on here that if you go with a different pitch, it had better be very different so that it is obvious and doesn't make your roof line look weird.

We are trying to decide exactly how we want the new roof to go. I'm leaning towards higher than the house so we'll have more room up there.
