I gotta do some suspension work and i would like to buy a puller. This is for a 2008 F250 superduty(diesel). My understanding is these are a MF'er to get out. I know snap-on makes a VERY stout puller but its only function is for pit-man arms and at $330.00 having a one dimensional tool is kinda useless. I'm looking for other options as to what else might be out there. I have looked at OTC and Lisle but i have heard mixed reviews. The Ford Service Manual has something similar to an OTC like puller, however if you have a 450 or 550 they use some sort of differential bearing remover to pull the arm(it looks pretty similar to the snap on tool). Rotunda wants $450 for that item.

Had to remove one from a '98 E150. The loaner OTC was not up to the task !

Lots of heat from a propane torch and a lot of BFH !

Yeah. I did some additional research and I think a snappy gear puller will do the trick. I can score those for under 100 and there expandable.

I have run across a few old Dodges that have broken a couple of those style pullers, so I made one, it has a 7/8" length of threaded rod......ugly, but works, and has never failed me.

Just remeber the puller is not designed to just zip off the arm with an impact. The puller applies tension while you hit the arm with a hammer to shock it off its tapered and indexed stud. If you try to zip it off with an impact it probably will just damage the puller and not remove the arm.

Removing a pitman arm is usually harder than it sounds

If u don't want to buy a puller, cut the arm with a cut off tool, stop before u ruin the splines and it will fall off with a tap of a hammer

Ive done so many on newer gm trucks and f-250-f-550 trucks that this is usually the easiest quickest method. Heating with a torch , while beating on it with a puller and running circles is usually time wasting. get to the cut off wheel right before hitting the splines, then use the puller or hit it with a flat chisel in the cut you made with the cut off wheel and it will fall off.

This is what I was thinking. If you use a cut off tool and don't ho all the way through, just close to it. You can do a couple of hits in the slice with a chisel and it will slide off or a basic puller will pull,it off

The only reason. To ever remove the pitman arm on newer f250s is if your replacing the gear box or significantly lifting the truck. This is a non wearing arm on these trucks. When you see movement in them its usually the tie rod its connected to.

I currently use a cheap $15 puller like the otc posted above. Have even ground it down to fit dodge pitman arms and it has never let me down. More often than not I have found the snap on puller doesn't fit where I need it.

that super duty needs a physically larger pitman arm puller than the normal $20 one... been there done that... that pitman arm is huge.

and for the guy that claims to have been able to apply enough hear w/a propane torch... unless it was an oxy-propane (like oxy acetylene but different tips calibrated for propane instead) I say "no way"... a bottle torch would not touch one of those/ if it did the job then it wasn't "stuck enough" to have needed heat in the 1st place.
