Pittsburg (HF) socket set at costco

I haven't been to costco in awhile, wandering around I seen a pittsburg socket set. The same ones as harbor freight, the color coded sets.
Only thing was instead of seperate sets like hf they had then in one package.
It has 4 socket "rails" all color coded, one set of shallow and one deep for both standard and metric and included a ratchet as well for $19.99.
To buy all the stuff at hf would be around $40ish dollars - any coupons.

Looked around on the net and can't find this set anywhere else.
costco must have a deal with pittsburg to package this deal just for them.
I should have snapped a pic, didn't think of it at the time just felt a bit tripped out seeing hf stuff been hawked at costco next to the snap-on name.

Are you sure it was Pittsburg? I remember seeing a similar set there but it was Crescent or something.

I don't think it was Pittsburgh, that is a HF house brand, but I saw the same sockets, they looked exactly the same as HF, but I think they where more expensive than HF.

But they didn't have a place on the shelves, and no price.

Pretty darn sure the set the OP wrote about is Crescent or other off brand. I saw the same set and was not impressed but then again I don't care for the Christmas color thing. I am looking forward to the new HF sets at HF!

Yeah, Rancho Cucamonga is a nice town, about 30 miles from me. It's the nearest 'A' Store Costco. We have a 'C' store Costco locally.
There is a Sam's in Rancho down the street from the Costco and while they both have their points, you are better with a Costco if you have to make a choice. More tools, better prices.

Sam's gives bigger portions on their samples though...

What I saw was an Impact socket set, I'm not sure where it was but I remembered I was really suprised to see Pittsburg somewhere else besides HF. As good an idea as color coded sockets are I still can't bring myself to warm up to them. maybe I'm afraid I'll eat them, lol

I got in trouble once for selling a small camera store near Seattle 200 video cameras back when they were $600+ each. At the time most of the manufacturers were very anti-buying club and Costco and the others had to lie, cheat and steal to buy many products.

I saw the same thing, but it was not marked with the Pittsburg brand name, but I assume the same makers produced it. Great deal for $20

Crescent is the only brand of hand tools my Costco sells and they only sell one big set of them.

As already said they are not.
They are Powerbuilt by Alltrade.
Once again sorry.
My self inflicted punishment was to buy a set, fruity colors or not.

I can see them at Costco.

Well, yes and no. Traditionally Crescent is/was a known name in tool production. But I have seen a ton of low tier/quality tools and misc with their name on it. Most or all of the tool items at Costco are low quality. I know they still produce some nice items but with all the licensed stuff I see I no longer consider them an upper tier or a known brand. YMMV.

I am gonna toss em in the "rescue" box.
If they get broke, lost or left behind no heart ache.
The rachet is a 72 tooth, not to bad feeling for a cheapie.

I can see where it would be easy enough to confuse. I imagine to sokets are identical other than the name lazer etched into them.

Thats interesting, prolly the same supplier as the Pittsburgh, just using Powerbuilt as the name. Those aren't on the website, and all PB ratchets are either teardrop or they have a black selector with finger spin thing. Never seen those at Kragens or Pepboys.
Either way, for the price, they should be a great for those occasions where you don't want to pull out the good stuff.

They are excellent tools, I have quite a few myself. They're my go to tools.

I had the S/O pick me up a set yesterday at Costco, not that I need anymore sockets (they will be used on the road/junk yard/field work), anyhow, the std are 12 pt and the deep well are 6 pt, I dont know if anyone mentioned that.

The quality of the sockets seems decent for $20 for 40 sockets. The ratchet is a POS, and about what you'd expect for "free" or damn near free.

Also noted, Taiwan, not China.

I seem to remember Northern Tool selling the Pittsburgh brand before they got the Northern Industrial name.

Picked up a set tonight...and they are not bad at all. Way better than some China offerings I've seen lately. The casting and plating is quite good. No flash, etc. I bought them strictly for the deep sockets. The ratchet isn't too bad either. It's dry, but the sockets lock positively (you can't pull them off w/o the release) and is about as sloppy as my RHFT Bonney. For the price, the shallow sockets, ratchet, and extension are a bonus.

The colors...are just plain stupid. They could probably sell twice as many if they were just silver or black. But I'm about function, so I'll get past it.
