I can't stand a cheap pair of MIG pliers. I want the wire to cut, not have to use the pliers to bend it back and forth to get it to break off.

Save your money and buy a good pair at your LWS.

I've had a HF pair of MIG pliers for about six years. Don't weld everyday, but at least two or three hours a week. Mine have worked perfect ever since I bought them.

I only wish I had a pair of Snap On MIG pliers, then I could have spent that extra $60 I've had laying around.

I use welpers, the japanese ones, I bought a cheap "hobart" pair at tractor supply for my welder at home, and the cutting edges on them have bad gaps and you have to have the wire on the right portion of it to cut, for the $10 I saved I wish i just got another pair of welpers for home too. Just look them over if you can just like if you were looking at a pair of dykes, close them and hold them up to the light to see how much light makes it through the gap in between the two cutting edges, if theyre tight buy em, if not its really not worth the headache.

I see suggestions for the Channellock Fence Pliers. USA made, about $20 and has more uses.

I have these too and they're not the greatest pliers, but for occasional use they work just fine. Plus you can get them for $8.99 if you use a 20% off coupon and they also have a lifetime warranty.

Mine work OK. No complaints. As is typical for HF, do your own QC at the store. Make sure the cutters close completely, tips are lined up, etc.

As I said in the other thread on this topic: I've got a set of HF mig pliers, and I hate them. Same problem others report: mine don't cut the wire, you have to snap or twist it off. Drives me nuts.
Worse than that, actually... I get frustrated every single time I weld. And looking at it from that perspective, it's just not worth it. I'm going to treat myself to some new pliers on the next paycheck.

I use a set of channel lock wire cutters and thats pretty much the best. If I have to take the tip off I use and set of tongue and groove also by channellock. If I had to though, Meaning, if I didn't already have the other two, I'd go with the welpers. My buddy had a set of the HF and they never worked well at all. It's really hit or miss with their products.

One of the few non dumb pig iron HF tools I own are a set of the MiG welpers. My set works great. Cuts the wire from.023 to .045 just fine. Nozzle cleaner and tip pliers work good. This set is at least 10 years old so HF might have cut the often times low quality even more resulting in the ones that don't cut the wire. No way would I put up with a set that did not cut the wire. The entire idea is one tool for all needs gun side.
