I was going to post this on a different thread about Walmart/Hart screwdrivers but decided not to derail that thread and instead dedicate a specific one to this screwdriver set. Can't say enough nice things about them.

8 screwdrivers for $9.99 and the 20% coupon applies, which brings the peice down to $7.99 before taxes. A dollar a screwdriver. That's beyond awesome.

I bought the set over a year ago, along with the longer (8") slotted single, and only needed to replace one screwdriver which I used as a mini-prybar and destroyed.

The set has been flawless. The handles are still in great shape even though I've grabbed them with hand coated in oil, coolant, brake cleaner etc. The tips are still looking great and if, as it happened before, one breaks, all I need to do is stop at the local HF and swap it out, no questions asked.

Honestly, can't ask for anything more other than I wish they were US made and I would gladly pay 3x as much as I did for that feature.

Anyone else using these? What are your thougts?

there was a test done by a magazine a few years ago. don't recall which one.

anywho. they ranked right up there with some high dollar name brand sets for a fraction of the price. i have often contemplated picking them up but honestly have more sets than i need now.

I like these posts. Good, cheap tools are always good to find out about.

They look like the same ones that they sell individually? If so, I have two and like them as well as any others

OK I'll play....under the conditions you describe, what did you expect to happen to the screwdrivers? Spontaneously combust?

I use them daily and I'm not gentle with them. I have destroyed other brand screwdrivers (Craftsman and Matco) using them exactly as I have these ones.

I paid a lot more for the Matco and it was a pain to exchange because the Matco driver stopped coming to the shop and the guy who took over a few years later didn't want to exchange tools so he would purposely try to evade me and a few other guys.

Sears closed down all around me so although I didn't pay as much for the Craftsman as the Matco ones, it was a pain just the same to try and exchange. Once Lowes bought the brand I took my broken tools there to exchange and was told they weren't doing that at the time. I went back after about 6 months and the lady at the counter gave me ****. So i decided never to buy Craftsman nor Matco again.

I think for the price they are phenomenal tools and the ease of warranty replacement makes it even more so for someone who uses them daily.

No, I didn't expect them to self combust but using them in the shop daily, I was expecting them to be in a lot worse shape than what they are. To my amazement they are still almost good as new.

Those are very good screwdrivers. Mine lasted about 2 years of daily use before the tips wore on the Philips. I replaced with USA williams.

Smallest flat-head is perfect for wheel bearing snap rings, largest for poking rotted frames.

EDIT: One of the best features is the large + and - on the handles. Perfect for vertical storage.

I put these in my work tool bag since they work well and nobody bothers to steal from a bag with Pittsburgh screwdrivers sticking out of it.

Yeah that's an amazing set for the price. I have bought about 3 sets of those for the basement, attic, garage, shed, car. I have them scattered about.

Gee, they are that good? I was thinking to get the Quinns as upgrade.

Yeah, I like them quite a lot. I mainly use the WRS-1 rather than fixed blade driver these days since I am not working as much in wood applications, but the tips on the Pittsburgh pro drivers are pretty good. The handles remind me of the bahco ergo grip design, but I prefer these for the most part.

I've got the cheap ones IIRC they use to give away. Even those weren't bad. I'll have to splurge and get a set of these.:D Thanks for the post.

I'm not a huge fan of the handles on those, but I'm sure they're decent drivers considering my even cheaper 10+ year old set of red handled HF ones are excellent.

that's probably the only tool set that Harbor Freight offers open stock replacements on the shelf. :wtf:

I would say that the Pro screwdriver set above is better than the Quinn set all things considered but, that's just my opinion. However, it all boils down to how the screwdriver fits your hand. One option that won't break the bank is that harbor Freight offers a two piece Quinn set containing a P#2 and a 1/4 flat tip that's on sale most of the time for a few bucks that you can get to try out to see which style you might prefer.

I have a set like this, different color. These perform very well, with one exception. I use mine professionally, and one of the handles got sticky, other than that, they are great.

Sounds like a hell of a deal. I no longer buy sets, though. I already have a couple sets and they are too redundant. I've been buying individuals and filling my wants and needs that way. I've also been trying different brands and handles to get a feel for the different types. It's pricey but so is duplication.

I wonder what chemical reaction caused it to get sticky. I've been fortunate to not have that issue.

I have a few of these that I got from I think Menards years ago. I mean same style but only the Philips are blue and yellow and the flats are red and yellow I believe. I have had them for a long time and zero issues. I am the one that posted the HART screwdriver post but I think if I ever need a quick set or even a garage set I will snag this Pittsburgh Set!!

Yeah, they're weirdly excellent.

The cushion grip set (yellow plastic with a sort of rubber motorcycle grip) is even cheaper yet and also strangely great screwdrivers, at least down at the business end. The handles are hideous, and you may or may not find them comfortable, but they dang sure will turn screws with the best of 'em.

One thing I wish more manufacturers would do as in the PP set is use different colors for the Phillips and flat blades. It would also be awesome if they had matching (but different handle color) sets with torx, metric hex, and SAE hex.

The proliferation of brands at HF is I guess a whole 'nuther topic. The Doyle, Quinn, and Icon stuff is quite nice, but nowhere near the amazing bang for the buck of these.

An off-spec rubber batch during manufacturing? :dunno:

Maybe even $8/set Chinese screwdrivers are not always perfect.

I have some of those Pittsburgh Pro screwdrivers and I think they're one of the great bang for the buck HF items, right there with the Pittsburgh Pro ratchets. I don't doubt there are even better screwdrivers out there but the HF PP screwdrivers do everything I need screwdrivers to do.

I picked up an assortment package of screwdrivers for cheap at a Sears outlet store years ago. They had 60s style, yellow handles and had identical looking screwdriver shanks with the same CHROME VANADIUM stamping. The tips on those screwdrivers are just as durable as the PP screwdrivers. The next time I was at the Outlet, the screwdrivers were sold out. No surprise.

I think I've seen the CHROME VANADIUM shanks on other screwdrivers, maybe Channellock.

Those are absolutely excellent drivers, and would be a good value at 3x the price. I have a decent amount of screwdrivers, and i like these better than many of my more expensive drivers (i prefer them over my snap on instinct handled drivers, as an example)

The Harbor Freight stores I've been to sell some of the Pittsburgh Pro screwdrivers individually. A #2 Phillips is a couple of bucks.
