It's obvious Pittsburgh tools are getting better, I have seen it with my own eyes thru the last 20 years. I would put Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight) equal to Duralast (Autozone) now. I'm very cautious buying from HF tho. Yeah that new Daytona jack looks nice, but they have not been out long. the US General boxes have proven to hold up for many years in non Professional home settings.

I agree in general with everything you said. You still need to look at everything at HF with a critical eye. There are some great values and some not so good.

I bought a Pittsburgh 2 ton floor jack 30 years ago. When they were only mail order. It was made well. I still use it and it does a good job for what it is. It is a little rusty from having use it in the rain a few times but I don't worry about it failing. It is much heavier than the 2 ton floor jacks you see at the Box stores today. It Has about the same profile and lift height. It will last the rest of my life.

I'd have more like the composites and flex heads but haven't found an excuse to buy them :)

Hang around here long enough, you'll find all sorts of ways to justify...

Yep. In addition to the extendable mentioned above, you can literally see the difference between the Taiwan and Chinese breaker bars hanging on the same hook. And feel it when you pick them up. The Taiwans make the Chinese versions feel like toothpicks.

At least HF is using mostly S2 bits in their bit sockets. Was disappointed to see new Kobalt bits are CrV.

I have quite a few Pittsburgh tools, I just look for the ones made in Taiwan. They seem to be higher quality.

I've been using my HF stuff professionally since 2013, or whenever I got newer purchases.

1/4" Die grinder still going strong.
Smaller Air Hammer still working well.
Wobble Extensions (I broke one, oh well they were 10$)
Wire Strippers (These work better than my matco strippers)
Torx Sockets (Broken 1 torx socket, tightening my snapon 3/8 flex.)
Big set of titanium coated drill bits (I broke 2 of the very small ones, but it was honestly mistreatment, they shouldn't have a 240LB fat *** man leaning on them) Otherwise I use these a lot. They cut so nicely. Never get dull. Maybe if you used single bit every day, without cutting oil, for a week or two. But damn, for less than 20$ just get a couple

Service cart 5 drawer series 1 (Used for over 2 years with no issues)
44" Tool chest series 1 (used for 2 years or so with only minor chipping of powder coat, and I was using it as a roll cart)

Impact Sockets 1/2" Been using these over a year now. Great impacts, too bad about the size skips. I'd recommend getting tektons for budget, or gp duo sockets instead.

Pittsburg Pro Ratchets. I've absolutely abused the **** out of these for over a year now, wow. Amazing ratchets, amazing price. Buy 2, if you break on you have a back up, and you can swing back to the store for a swap, grap a pack of electrical tape and a free magnetic tray or batteries...

Scotchbrite style pad cleaning disc (rolocs) (cleaning cookies) I've used the red and blue, the work, they are super cheap, they last a decent time, love these.

Free flashlights/magnetic work lights/head lamps. Just dont okay. Get the micro fiber cloths, or batteries, or magnetic tray / strip.

Harbor freight seal driver - okay well I've used this a handful of times, and the handle is starting to mushroom, but it has made me some good money so it was worth it. I need to get a handle that is made of steel.

Harbor freight Ball Joint press - Works well, has made me money. I keep the forcing screw lubed with silicone spray.

Harbor freight oil filter housing sockets - Works. thats about all I can say. I've only needed them about 3 times since I bought them, I dont do oil changes much anymore.

Harbor freight small metric tap and die set - only worth getting if you are in a bind, its missing needed automotive sizes, and it only goes to 12mm bolt size. It has a bunch of basically useless sizes as well.

Depends on the item. For stuff like impact sockets where it doesn't really matter, Pittsburgh is usually a decent cheap option.

So many users are jerks about "use the search function", then others gripe when the search function is used and an old post is replied to. Interesting.

To respond about the t handle ratcheting screwdriver, it is very useful. My local store has it marked with a purple clearance tag, which is unfortunate because it really is a good tool

Can someone explain to me what actual harm is inflicted by resurrecting an old thread?

Butthurt is a common affliction with certain members when someone resurrects an old thread, or has the audacity to mention something that was already discussed in 2004...

I don't get it either- who wants to read through a bunch of stale commentary between members who may or may not still be around, have been banned or are long dead?
And the GJ search feature is sub-optimal at best. (trying not to insult Ryan on his free forum); it's easier and more effective to just ask a question- people will either answer it or ***** about it either way- some folks prefer discussing current events vs. ancient history.

Cman has been in a race to the bottom since the early 80s. They chased HF all the way down and lost, HF now has the position and is protecting it by edging up the game. The world should thank HF, everything would cost 3 x as much if it wasn't for them and Wal-Mart.

I thank Costco for keeping price steady. When I went to Maui, the price difference between Costco and everywhere else is truly night and day. If I live there, I want to go to Costco every day.

Members that are jerks about the search function are most likely people with too much time on their hands. Ignore them. They have zero say on how this forum is ran. Use the forum as intended and don’t sweat it.

Nothing wrong with Pittsburgh Tools at all for the most part. Some of their things are pretty low quality but the sockets and auto specialty tools are just fine. Also Harbor Freight Earthquake line is really good for power tools I use their sockets and power tools and special tools professionally and they work fine. I don’t judge by brand. Also many of the other brands and products they offer are good too like the Pittsburgh and Daytona jacks and everything like that.
