Plane Jane quick and dirty welding table

I don’t post much but figured I’d throw a few pics up of my quickie table build. Nothing near as fancy as some here but I’m tired of putting out fires on my old bench (literally). Also with the addition of my cnc table room is s big concern so the 4x8 table needs to go.

Legs are all 2” square tubing 3/16” wall top is going to be 1/2”. Like everyone else I wanted thicker but 1/2” was more than I really wanted to spend. Only got to work on it for about 2hrs yesterday but got a decent start...

Is it about 32" x 44"? Down sizing is painful.

So much for quick... after having to go to the deer lease to get some work done I was able to spend a few hours working on it yesterday.

And ofcourse on Sunday afternoon I ran out of 75/25 so I opted on cutting a few parts for it.

Sure is nice to draw a part and in a couple minutes have them cut and done!

Is the top going to simply sit on it? I understand the diagonal gussets keeping the legs straight, but I'm puzzled by the horizontal ones on the corners. Unless the top is floating, would there be any kind of torsional force on the frame after the top is welded on? Half-inch plate is pretty stout stuff.

But I might be missing the point entirely -- it might not be as plain jane a final design as I'm picturing in my head.

The horizontal tabs are what the top will bolt to eventually. I didn’t drill them out yet mostly because I’m little chicken and was waiting to have the top in it’s final resting place prior to drilling them. My 1/2” has a very minor bow in it from shearing, and I’m expecting/hoping to be able to pull the top down level with the countersunk bolts.

Oh wait a minute if you are talking about the 4 pieces (1 in each corner) I just put that in there for a little extra support for the mitered corners. I think those are the ones you were actually talking about and not the 12 mounting tabs? Oh and if I was going to fully wrap the bottom of the legs I wouldn’t have put all the gussets in the corners. Currently I’m building this with s broken ankle and would love to be able to sit st my current table so a little more work but I will be able to sit at this one if needed. I tend to go a little overboard sometimes trying to make stuff way sturdier than it really needs to be sometimes. It’d been fine without a lot of the gussets but I tend to be hard on stuff and blame my rock crawling background where anything can be broken if you try hard enough.

Muriatic acid kills mill scale, just not very quick on the plate.. so I’m forced to sit hear and drink beer and wait... top has been wet with acid for about 45 minutes and it’s working.. but at this rate I may have to make a trip to beer store soon..

The machine is a wright cnc 2x2. I’m doing most of my cad work in ViaCad and Inkscape, and running sheetcam and Mach 3. I’ve been very happy with the table so far for what I do with it. Yes, having a bigger table would be nice and I do plan to upgrade in the future but have to upgrade shop size first. I won’t comment on pricing as I got in very early on the table prior to its release and got it much much cheaper than what is listed on their website. I did order in early April before the first one was built and had to wait until August for them to be transformed from s drawing to a working table.

Here is an example of some motor mounts I made for a friend , cut on it to show how well it can cut. I’m honestly still learning it as I’ve had it about 2 months. I went from never seeing one in person to cutting my own parts fairly quickly after a fairly steep learning curve.

I like it. Only change I make is bracing for legs higher and designed for shelf. I like the big overhand and don't worry even a little bit, 1/2 is good and like it as good or better than thicker for use with common clamps. Close for flaming piece to piece or piece to top without lots of adjustment.
The custom work is nice but probably have skipped the center brace on the top and all the corner triangulation. Both ways, the top does it on the top.

9I like the size of this bench. I have a large shop but don't care for big bench for a lot of fab work. It ends up being a lot of walk around.
I am going to wonder a bit with Jack on this and the title of the thread. The workmanship is excellent but it's not quick and dirty.
There is nothing wrong with it but got 13 extra pieces in the top alone along with a dozen miter cuts and bunch of weld finishing. It's not bad, just doesn't add. (Been there, done this). Didn't include the dozen tabs and cuts that went with those.
