Wanting to build a 30x40 with 14ft ceilings this year. I want to as much work as possible by myself and have been looking into diypolebarns.com . Does anyone gave experience with them more recommend someone else for a kit? Im located in eastern NC/VA state line.

I'm looking to be able to work on 2 cars comfortably with a 2post lift installed. Any recommendations or tips while building/concrete/electrical/other? This will be the biggest build I've taken on but I feel confident with help from friends and family will be possible.

Thanks for help in advance

For really working on 2 cars go 36 wide. It is so much better and every foot you add anywhere here is a good gain. Its small money at this point in a diy build to go for some footage, I guess 30x40 sounds good but its not a law.
I have even better ideas for your money but I been down this road every way there is and see a lot of others do it. There is a limit but so many of the fixed costs here are the same and the sq ft except for concrete so to speak. Cheap now, hard later.
A little like a 140 or a 210 mig, a huge leap. I worked in a 30 wide and with the doors in the gable its too narrow. Anything sitting along the walls jambs it in and makes what would have been the most valuable space in the building near worthless.
6 extra feet give room for a tool box, bench etc and can still open the doors to a car. Even a place that parks a mower or bicycle.
Having said that in this class of real 2 cars I would add wide to a 30 before long, ideal is 40x40 or longer and I am a maniac so wouldn't stop till 48 minimum. Especially since the thing is already 14 tall. Probably add 10K for materials. Every cent poured in at that point goes toward direct material cost and ends up as equity.

I'm looking to be able to work on 2 cars comfortably
I am trying to come up with simpler wording,,, ha
Yes, this was the original questions. I have worked on 2 cars in a 30x40 and its not comfortable.
Going to all the trouble of a lift and 14 ceiling, the associated cost with all of this don't skimp at the end, that is the time to seed extra even if its a little painful.

are you for real, my friend works on 4 cars in a 30x40, and in my 32x64 I have cars 3 wide and 3 deep, except for the last row by the door, they are 2 side by side in 32ft, still do all my work on them, with them in there. I always thought it was plenty of room, they are 1960's and 80's full size cars, maybe you are working on something larger.

Smart on going 14' high ! My shop is 27x40 so I have an idea on what you will have but have no lift so I dont know what kind of room they eat up .

I think where the doors are is an overlooked think with many shops . I have an 8x8 door on each gable end . But my main entrance door is a 10x14 door that is 10 " from one end of the shop . I can bring 2 vehicles in and park with plenty of room between them .

Now room at front and rear isn't much so I added a 16x20 on half of the shop and cured that . Office , workbench ,toolbox and shelves are on other end so I have pleny of room around whatever now .

If spending money is there , I would also say go 40x40 . Or do like I did and have the shop bigger one one end .

My roof is square as I have a 16x20 outside dry storage with entrance door next to the 20x16 shop addition .

I keep oil , gas cans , mowers and hand tools all out there in the dry . Could be a place for air comp too but I only use a small one .

A 30x30 will be great ! Everything can always be more better !

I would just go with a slab and than eather build a polebarn type building or all metal would be my choise .

Have fun with it .

I'd love to go bigger but funding is just not there. My layout is for a 32x40 (what diypolebarns will do in 8ft increments) on the 32 side have 2 10x10 doors and then split the shop in too 4 16x20 sections. 2 by the doors to park or work on cars 1 section in the back for boxes, benches, tools and loft above just for storage, then the last section in the back for the lift. In theory should be able too have 3 cars in at once but would be tight to work on them. I have a '67 f250 project '72 maverick and a '14 mustang scca autocross/track car. Just too give a picture of what I'll be working in in the space. I'm also planning to build a leantoo on the side to park my tractor and truck at.

anyone used diypolebarns? Or just its a pole barn not much of the kits are different? On concrete anyone done a the prep work and just have someone come out to pour and then finish to save cost?

Ugh... it seems whatever size building a fella posts he is planning, others come along and say make it bigger.

30 x 40 is plenty big for what you are planning, especially with 14 ft high walls. You can build some lofts and have extra storage there.

And as far as splitting it up, I did that in my last building and it worked great, with a 2 post lift.

Some folks would say "The bays are to narrow", in reality it was never to narrow for what I did, which was working on and building hot rods, cars and pickups. One side was fully insulated, the other side for cold storage.

My previous garage was 40' deep. Two cars deep would fit, but no room to work on them. Go another 8' if you want room to work.

Here's the thing, if you know there are certain things you want to be able to do in the new shop, then build it big enough. You will ALWAYS be aggravated if it's too small. Much better option is to plan very carefully, and then spend the extra money to build what you need to accomplish your goals.

Good luck with the project!

That's beautiful, wish I had the knowledge you do. One day, I'll have my man cave..
