Planning Build in Tennessee

Hello all. I've been lurking on this board for awhile gathering info for a build.
We completed a new home about 18 months ago. It has an attached 2-car garage that currently contains my wife's car, my F150, 3 motorcycles, a bicycle, tool chests, storage shelves and a motorcycle clothing rack. I'm planning a 30 x 40 detached garage for motorcycles and my compact tractor. Per Mrs instructions, the garage exterior is to complement the house.
I want to have a motorcycle work area with pneumatic m/c lift and plumb the garage for a restroom (with urinal!).
I've never built anything, but think I can at least act as my own contractor and do some of the work myself. I made friends with some of the subcontractors that worked on my house that did quality work, so plan to use them for framing and roofing. Been studying the forums (but keep getting distracted by the pin-up thread...)
To new friends,
Charlie

Where 'abouts in Tennessee are you? I am in East Tennessee (in case the screen-name didnt give it away).

I have been working on my 30x42 for about 2 years and it is nearly done, but I have done about 98% of it myself. it is sided to match the front of my house, so they look well together.

A few suggestions....
1) go with either 28 or 32 deep (multiples of 4 for plywood sizing)
2) PLENTY of electric outlets (you CANNOT have too many)
3) at least a 10' ceiling..if not 12'.
4) at least an 8' high garage door to get the CUT in with the ROPS bar!

Charlie Welcome to the GJ, I like the picture of your wife but she might be upset with you for posting it! Maybe when you get the chance you could show more pictures of your garage and all your other machines we would like to see them.

EAST TN EMC, I am in Middle TN, just outside of Nashville. Good suggestions. Due to locations of septic system, underground propane etc, my garage will be 40 deep and 30 wide. I may reduce it to 28 to save on materials, but still debating on this...want to get it as wide as possible.
WOODY 73, well that's not exactly my wife...been trying to get her to do a pinup pose for me and when she does I'll replace my avatar :)
My current garage isn't much to see as it's pretty packed. I will attach a couple of pictures of my toys...

Welcome to GJ! I just moved away from Portland, TN. I miss it up there, it was great! Good luck with your build! You will be surprised how quick you can fill up your 30x40! I did when I was up there.

Well Joe, if you get a 1198, then I'LL be jealous. Mine's a 1993 900 supersport that has the Ferracci 944 kit installed. Not so fast and hyper as the newer stuff, but really sweet handling. Also, the riding position is not as extreme...better for an old guy like me. Attaching a shot of my old 750 at Road Atlanta.

Looks like alot of fun, that is what I would like to do when I get my 1198, Some track days. Always had sport bikes until this Harley, always wanted one. Had it for several years now I'm ready for another sport bike. Kinda the "been there done that" syndrome.
Don't know when the Duc will come but it will come!

this is my current ride... for now. Lots of performance upgrades but it will never be a sport bike.

Joe, I've never gotten the Harley bug but have to say that's a beautiful bike. I've reached the age where not only do I hate to ever sell a bike, but find myself trying to acquire bikes out of my past, hence the need to build. I guess my next quest will be for a 75-76 Penton Hare Scrambler. That's one bike I never, ever should have let go...
