Ok. You got me convinced. I only regret not getting 8/3 for everything. I got piece of 8/2 and piece of 8/3.

Switch ordered. Hopefully I will be able to get it all in.

Oh, and since I'm here another Q. Metal box I got from Grainger is 4 11/16 with mud plate. There is no holes on a side to mount to stud? There is 2 holes but they are very close to top if you know what I mean. Should I drill new holes to attach this box to stud?

You should get the box with the mounting flange if you can. If there are holes in the box for mounting then you can use them. As far as drilling holes thru the side for mounting? I wouldn't do it.

Those bigger 4 11/16 boxes do not come with flanges. They probably meant to be mounted to the wall. I can always put 2x4 or something between box and wall and fasten it that way.

Grainger 2NYF4 has a bracket....

On edit: Grainger is probably not the most cost effective place to buy electric supplies.

Yep! Thanks.

However now that I think about it - putting 2x4 between studs and mounting box to it will be much more solid. With a braket it's still "flimsy" when you deal with 2 #8 wires inside..

You are dead on right. I hate how flimsy the boxes over one gang are.

8/3 wire was about the same in price as 8.2 but I would have neutral down in a basement and could use my new setup right away with 110V compressor.. Now in order to use it I will have to re-wire compressor rendering it somewhat non-portable.

No, I have plenty of good 120 circuits, I don't have one that controlled from garage. Rember, I'm putting compressor into basement and want it to be controllable in garage.
