I recently completed construction of my 52' x 56' pole building with 16' walls. The shop has a single walk thru door, a 12' x 14' insulated garage door, a 16' x 10' insulated garage door and 3 3' x 4' windows. I currently have 1 1/2" foam board insulation installed along all of the walls but plan to add additional insulation on top of that once I have finished doing the electrical wiring. The ceiling is currently open to facilitate wiring but plan to close in the ceiling and have insulation blown into the attic space. I live in the Northern Virginia area and want to be able to heat the building in the winter time (maintaining 62 degrees all the time) and cool the building in the summer (maintaining 78 degrees all the time). I have been in contact with MRCOOL and they are suggesting 2 of their DIY 36K BTU (3 ton) systems. I have done some searching for BTU calculators and so far I have not been able to find one that is designed to calculate BTUs for a space like (I am sure they are out there but I have not found them).
Can someone point me to a calculator that would give me good data for a space like mine? Does anyone have experience with heating/cooling a space similar to this? If I were to go with the 2 split systems MRCOOL recommended, does anyone have tips for placement? One on the front wall and one on the back wall? How high up on the wall?
