Planning help for new garage/barn

Been lurking around here a bit and decided its time for me to start a project....

Im thinking of building a 30x30x16 building with 2 door openings, one 14ft, and one 10/12ft. The larger door will be for my boat, and the smaller will be for whatever else. I am also interested in having a workout room inside the building, nothing real big, maybe 10x12 or something.

The problem is that I know nothing about building these, pricing these or in general what I want. I plan to get a few companies out here and give me some quotes etc.. But I would like to kind of know what Im talking about. Im also fairly certain I can build one myself if I go the kit route. I have been looking at graberpost.com and also usbuildingsdirect.com so as you can see I am all over the map on what I want. I know what I need, I need a place to store my boat, 3 dirtbikes, atv, mower, kids bikes, wagons etc... because my 2 car garage is full!

So what do you guys recommend, of course I would like to keep the budget as low as I can, because lets face it the building is only to store things, not to live in(dont shoot me). I want concrete, windows are less important, thinking about a corn burner for heat if/when I would need or want it. 220 service, and at least one large door so I dont have to fold my tower down on my boat to store it. I dont have any set size building in mind, so I am open to suggestions. I live in NW Ohio.

Welcome to the board....

A few suggestions.....

1. Please put your 'general' location in your profile. It helps us answer your questions better. A lot of answers depend on your location....what we suggest to someone in NY is a lot different for someone in AZ.

2. Spend the next week going through this site. 95% of your questions can be answered by searching. All of the questions and comments in your post have already been asked and answered.

Wtih that said....

Going with the 2 different doors is a good idea....especially in your case. You will find plenty of posts regarding the larger doors and the associated lifts.....key search phrase "Liftmaster 3800"....

Since it's obvious that you don't plan to do the work yourself....start asking about contractors.....forget the web....talk to real customers....or better yet...drive around town and look for on going projects. If you like the way they seem to be working and they are staying busy...good prospect.

I don't want to dampen your spirits...but it's going to take longer to get this project going than you think....that is just the way it is....
