Hey there master garager's and the like...
We purchased our first home in August and fell in love with a Victorian home with a shared drive, and no garage
. In hindsight, probably not the smartest idea as I have a hobby of vintage vehicles (only one right now thankfully). I generally store it in the winter, but would really like to have it covered most times, plus the addition of a parking area and carport would really bring up the value of the property.
I am thinking a carport with 1/2 walls from the top down leaving the bottom open for airflow etc. Or may even close two of the 4 sides...I will be adding storage for tools, whether that is a shed that the carport backs on to, for easy access for the 1/2 ton jack or some lockable cabinets hanging on the walls etc.
My question comes in with the floor...like most on here. The drive will be re-gravelled with my neighbour, and I will be adding a better drainage system along with re-grading the driveway. As the shared drive comes back it splits behind our homes to our own areas...we have enough room for about 3 cars, but to save room for grass, gardening, and overall aesthetics we plan on creating two spots with one being covered.
We could gravel the whole thing including the pad under the carport, however would this be the best for the vehicle if it is sitting there? Our ground is VERY sandy so drainage is okay already. I guess w are looking to get the most bang for our buck, and best resale, and drainage...I grew up in a gravel driveway working on vehicles, so I am not too picky with having to lay on it. lol.
Gravel? Pavers? Cement Slab?
Any ideas, pictures etc. would be appreciated.
