Hello all! Guess I better break the ice somehow. A little about my project. I'm located in Northeastern PA, with our lovely Arctic winters and African Desert summers. Anyways, I'm in the planning stages of my 30x60x16 pole barn. I'm going to have the building itself done by an outside company, and I'm looking at around 20k for a building, two garage doors, a man door, and a window or two. So that part, I won't have to worry about building. But after that is when my real worrying comes. Here's what I have in my head so far, and I'm hoping some of you guys could tell me if I'm going in the right direction, or if not, steer me in the right direction! :)

Once the building is done, my plan is to frame the entire inside with 2x6's running horizontally up the posts in the eight foot sections between each pole, spaced 2ft on center. Then, I plan on wiring it, which is where I come to my first question. Can I (following code) run romex wire between the post and the exterior metal, or do I have to drill through the poles?

Next, after I'm wired, comes the insulation. My plan is to use 8ft lengths of 24" faced fiberglass insulation, and to run it horizontally. But my question to that is, will I have to worry about vapor issues, or is this a solid way to go? (I'm really hoping it is, because it seems to be the easiest way of doing it while still getting a good R-Value)

I know I will have more questions down the road, but these are my major questions for the time being bothering me.

And yes, when the building does finally go up, there will of course be pictures.

Thanks to any who reply!

Wow that's cheap. Makes my 36x60x16 building look like I got bent over :/

I'm currently trying to figure out my insulation as well. I plan on putting DuPont Tyvek house wrap inside before putting any fiberglass insulation up. In my opinion, If you put the fiberglass insulation on the metal siding it will deteriorate over time from condensation build up on the inside of the metal siding which would just absorb into the fiberglass and make it all nasty over time. I'll be using only R-7 2inch fiberglass insulation for now, more of a vapor barrier really, only because I screwed up and it's not returnable. I'll put 4inch stuff on top of it down the road.

I had the same question about drilling through the posts, don't know the correct answer. Most of my electrical i'm going to run up and over the rafters to there appropriate locations.

Good luck, make sure you update the thread with updated information you find out!
