Hi all. Im getting the ball rolling on building my new 36 wide by 32 deep garage and could use some input on the final details and layout. my property is zoned as a commerical property as well so i dont have the restrictions as a residential lot has. i will need a variance however for how close i am the the road.

Currently in the space the garage will be built, which will be between my house and well. this is the biggest i can build in this area and still have proper distance from the well, there is a 14x20 garage that will be tore down and removed to make room for the new bigger garage. 36 wide by 32 deep by 10 ceiling height is my plan to build. 2x4 stick construction, insulated and heated. in the over head pictures provided in next post, you can see the well and firepit that i will have to relocate.

the new garage will be a foot closer to the house and pushed 4-5ft back farther back from the road as the current garage to give me a little bit bigger driveway. It will be built over the top of the water service line going from well to house

Im in southern wisconsin and the foundation will be a level monolithic slab with a center floor drain. slab will have thickened edges and a curb to be built on.

This garage will be for parking 2 vehicles, a harley, some storage area. and have additional space for a bar/mancave area for entertaining guests as our house is small and doesnt provide room for that.

There is also another 30x30 on the property that is my shop. so work is done in there and i dont plan to do that here.

i plan to run electrical with a sub panel in the garage. id like to run water to it from the house to a hydrant spigot inside the garage in the corner. will also have a floor drain between the two vehicle stalls.

For a service door, i plan to have it on the side of the garage as i plan for future building of a breezeway from house to garage.

what i need input on is: foundation as well as door sizes and locations

should i put styrofoam insuation below concrete slab or just vapor barrier?

i plan for 2 10ft wide x 8ft tall overhead doors. how much spacing should i have between them as well as how far from the wall should the first one be?

And can the floor drain be tied into a septic drain field line or am i better off have the drain going straight down in the ground to a barrel full of gravel?

any other input based on my designs are greatly appreciated. please see pics in next post

I just had a 24x36 built. I went with the tallest doors I could fit and I'm glad I did. I went 12 foot wide and glad I did that as well. But I'm in Florida so heating is not an issue and I wanted good ventilation during the summer. The width between the doors, for me at least, would be dependant on use. You could nestle them close together, say 12" depending on the supporting column design. But I'd want them spaced out more. I would want at least 24" to 36" minimum between the garage doors.
