Planning new Swisstrax floor (Canada)

Hi All,

I think I'm narrowed down to putting in a Swisstrax floor in my two car garage. I have a couple sample tiles which took over a week to get here in black and slate grey. I find the slate grey a tad dark and was thinking pearl grey is a better contrast with the Jet Black? The grey and black in the semi dark almost appear the same. That said, it's a tad hard to tell online and I've been through the galleries a bunch.

I assume there are no dealers and you can't order up a quick tile or two somewhere around west Toronto?

Also assume that while I have some slight undulations and sloping on the floor (sometimes an inch in 3-4') that the tile will generally sit flat? With only two tiles it seems at the wall to possibly lift off the floor. I'd rather not adhere them down given being able to remove them is a big plus for cleaning.

Also, for those that put landscape cloth down, does this cause issues with mold or stale water should the tiles get wet?

Great forum btw and learning lots.

Pete

Swisstrax tiles will handle the dips in the floor.
Great product.
I just dealt with Swisstrax Canada and it was a **** show.
What was on my order was not actually shipped.
My design was changed and the service rep looked like he never updated or saved my new suggested design and they short shipped me product and had to wait 2 weeks for the items not shipped and then the items shipped were still wrong. It was all settled in the end but it was a hair pulling experience.
I was originally dealing with Obsessed Garage and they were helpful and great to deal with. The only problem was they couldn't ship to Ontario, Canada and I had to deal with Swisstrax Canada.

Sorry to hear you had a rough experience. I am hopeful not too but that's a tad concerning.

Email has been 50/50 so will see!

Anyone find dark tiles harder to keep clean than lighter colors and what is the thinking on sealing the floor first? Home depot guy suggested I should do so.

I sealed my garage floor as things can still leak through the slots in the tile.

I had a friend who installed his and did not seal the floor. I don't know if there is a big difference but I also wanted to keep the dust down in my garage as things were getting dusty each year after doing major clean up and dusting in my garage.

Thanks. It was a fun project and not as bad as I would have thought.

Ya, looking forward. I haven't ordered yet as I'm not sure they really want my money ;-)

Business in Covid must be good. Getting a RaceDeck quote in the meantime -not sure they are super economical in Canada? (had CC out last night to pay but alas).

Put in a RaceDeck order today - not intending to be a Swisstrax vs RaceDeck comparison here - actually quite liked the Swisstrax samples I got and have never seen RaceDecks tiles but overall sales experience had me warm to RD - in short, they wanted my business more but would have no hesitation recommending the Swisstrax product based on what i saw. (pretty sure all home improvement vendors are over-subscribed here as we all stay home and put our vacation money into homes)

Have a typical 20x20 ish two car garage and am going to do a diamond tread tile border ( I think its TuffShield) and a free-flow based center.

This will be more or less the end of a long cosmetic upgrade with new and better storage, new lighting, electrical outlets, crack repair on floor, concrete patching on walls, and of course lots of paint!

Hoping to receive and install before November and will start a new thread (given title of this one) and share some pics for those interested.
