I've already spent several hours reading lots of great information on this site and really appreciate the rich information and advice that I've read.

You will see from the plan/video that this is an addition to a house with existing 2 car garage. Sorry for the link, I didn't realize that we couldn't embed video (or at least I couldn't figure out how to do it)

Size:
Because of the side yard setback I cannot go any wider, I have already jiggled things about and angled parallel to the side boundary to get the 20ft width (which was my minimum).

Use and Design Principles:
I intend to have a flush mount lift in the middle, so I can have a single car in the middle with lots of room to work around the car, but then I can park two cars in the garage if needed.

In order to make the project family friendly I have included an additional storage area between the two garages and used the top of that as a balcony for the bedroom above (wife and daughter like that).

Flooring:
I love the idea of porcelain tile, but don't like the idea of leaving it a year before laying. I'm in Princeton area of NJ so will contacting thegarageguy

Doors:
I've spec'd a 16'x7' high lift door and I know that many will immediately say "go taller". The thing is I really want the doors to match the existing door heights. I like fast cars and the current car being parked and worked on in the garage will be a Nissan GTR, so height really isn't an issue. The biggest vehicle we have today is FX35, and as a sanity check I thought, what is the biggest vehicle the wife would want. The answer is probably a QX56 that would still fit, but again it probably wouldn't be going in this garage anyway.

At this stage it is just a sketchup model, so next stage is architect drawings for submission for permits etc.
