What do y'all use to get a visual on a shop? I would like a website where I can try different layouts for doors, equipment ,and parking.

I sketched mine using graph paper, pencil and an acculine.

I then sketched it into xactimate and got material breakdowns from that. Can view in 3d using xm8 as well

Google Sketchup. I've seen a lot of guys on this site use it to mock up garages, among other things. It's also free.

Grizzly has a shop planner on their website, while it is designed for metal or wood shops, it could easily be used for automotive.

Yup, Google Sketchup. I just like playing around with it. My garage below with a few items in it. I can grab models and move them around if I want to reorganize. Shelves, cabinets, workbench, paint cabinet I modeled. I just quickly added the tractor, snow blower, and table saw models downloaded from the 3D Warehouse to toss in the image.

Moved the blower, workbench, and copied and added some more cabinets for a quick reorganize....

My workbench design...

I can even put my wife's Rav4 in the garage (Rav4 not drawn by me)...

Easily add dimensions to print out...

I've drawn a proposed garage in Sketchup, and try to add cabinets, etc., but every time I move something IN the garage, I also select PART of the garage and relocate a wall, or something. How to I "lock" the building so i don't keep destroying it?

I do it like this. Let's see if this shows up. Build a simple box.

Aw man, why didn't I think of that? I used to be "fair" with AutoCAD, but lost the use of it when I was laid off. Some things in SketchUp are familiar, if I could only find them in the cobwebs of my mind.

Think I better upgrade.... I can't find the "extrude" command.

Thanks MRogers, I appreciate the help.

Thanks for the replies! That will give me something to figure out what I want/need for project space and storage.
