Plasma cutter cart I built last summer...

Forgot to take pix during the build, but thought you guys might be interested anyway

I got tired ot lugging my Hobart Airforce 400 around and setting it on the bench so I built up a little cart for it.

I used 2x2x1/8" box tube and a little bit of angle iron for the cutter tray as well as some casters I got at Fleet Farm and a hose hanger that I cut up for the ground/torch hanger.

I also stripped down a Northern $9.99 air hose reel and painted it orange to match the plasma and bolted it to the bottom of the cart... the filter/regulator have since been moved when I installed my copper air line but they worked well hanging on the bottom.

Questions, yes. How did you manage matching the paint colors? Where did you get your paint? Does Hobart have rattle cans available in the orange and off white? I can't quite make out the plug, are you powered up on 110 or 220 volts? Got my 400 on 3/27 and still no cart. I wanted to combine it, a HH140 and tank plus an AC/DC stick welder all on one cart but maybe I should rethink it. Seeing your setup has got me back to thinking portability rather than my 3-in-one space saver idea.

Oh, how long did it sting to cut off the molded power plug or did you go with a whole new cable? TIA, Steve

I'm using 220V, same plug as my welder and wanted to use the extension cord/outlets I had already (plus, no easily available 20A outlets in the garage for 120). Just cut the old plug off and added this one to the end. Not a big deal as I will probably never use it outside my garage and I have 2 welding outlets in different locations that use this exact plug.

I just bought Ford Gray and Safety Orange paint in rattle cans from Fleet Farm... I forget what the brand is but they're meant to be tractor paint and come out to be an extremely good looking and durable finish. ~$4.50/can.

Not a problem as I have not had time to do a thing with the plasma. I have been giving some thought to making up a very short (maybe 6") cheater cord with appropriate male and female plugs to use with my 20 amp 220 volt receptacles so I don't have to cut the supplied cord. I have plenty of the 20 amp 220 outlets in my shop and garage.

Safety Orange paint (great match) I have on hand and will get the Ford tractor gray.

Looked at the cans... They've "Valspar Implement Enamel" though I doubt that matters as long as you can find Ford Gray (tractor variety).

I get paints mixed to samples or ??? and put in rattle cans at the local body shop supply store - if you wanted a specific or custom color.

This is a great stand - even if you went out and bought an engine stand for 35.00 at the china-tool mart it'd be cheap and sturdy
