Plasma Cutter recommendations?

Looking or recommendations for an inverter plasma cutter for hot rod fabrication. Won't need to cut anything thicker than 3/8" for brackets, etc. Getting tired of the torch and grind method. Looking for a good machine for a moderate price. Would be all over a Miller but trying to hold the cost down. Imports could be ok if the service and parts availablitly is decent.

I've been more than satisfied with my $200 Amazon Cut40 chinesium special.....although I know this is not the commonly approved advice around here.

Hypertherm, but a close second for me is HTP.

Do be careful: If you want to go to CNC conversion down the road, some brands (e.g. AHP) will evidently not work well with this use case due to RF emissions.

I love my Hypertherm. There is a guy on Youtube (Mike Festiva) who does great things with HF plasma cutters though, so the cheaper units definitely can work well

Last year I bought a hypertherm powermax 45xp. Could not be happier. Sometimes I think I would like a dual voltage unit but the 45xp has some special features not available on the 30 amp machines.

I also have a cheap chinese cutter.

It cuts.

If it stops cutting, I think I can replace it for the price of a Hypertherm repair.

It will easily cut 3/8".

I bought a MILLER SPECTRUM 300. No regrets.

I have 45 and 100 amp Millers which are awesome although Hypertherm was my first choice.
