I was curious of a recommendation for an entry level or home hobby use plasma cutter? The thickest that I would be cutting would maybe be 3/8. Most of the time it would be thinner material and tubing.

I got a miller 625. Love it. Yes it will do more thicker metel that what you are hunting but you never know what you will be cutting in the future. I just wish mine would of cut 7/8" steel for my rootrake on my bulldozer. But that is another story. I Guess a little bigger is better. I would not get one that barely cutts 3/8 material.

I went a bit overboard with my first plasma cutter for home use, I picked up a HyperTherm PowerMax30. Not cheap but it's an amazing unit that I should be able to pass off to my future offspring. Buy once, cry once and all that.

Hypertherm as well:thumbup:. I own a Thermal Dynamics PAKMaster 25, and it has never let me down in the 15 years I've had it, but it's only a sheetmetal cutter that maxes out at 1/8". Definitely spend the up front for a unit that will cut thicker material. I plan on saving for one after Christmas. A decent plasma unit will pay itself off in a few years with regular use if you were previously a torch guy. Filling those bottles isn't cheap.

Hypertherm powermax 30. 3/8" steady diet on a plasma is pretty thick, you may want to bump up to the 45, but for occasional 3/8" you should be fine.

I agree with this. I cut 3/8's with mine, but it's a bit much. Also, remember the pm30 is a dual voltage machine.

I'd say any miller or hypertherm will do you well. ChuckE2009 has some reviews on youtube, I forget the "generic" brand he did good reviews on.
