I need some help deciding on a cutter to get...lucking under 1k and the less the better but what I've looked at so far is the northern tool 375, hobart air force 250 and an everlast one that I forgot the model. Does anyone have any real world experience with either models or have any suggestions on other comparable models?

I have a hypertherm powermax 30 & 65. Used the 65 this morning to cut 3/8" aluminum checker plate. Not sure on the cut capacity you need but I think a 30 can be had for right around a grand. Works on 120V & 240V.

I would suggest spending a little more money and getting a solid all USA built machine. You will save way more money in consumables in the long run.

:+1: I was real close to pulling the trigger on one of those, then the required job fell through. They are one of if not the best bang for the buck quality units out for the small shop.

I have hypertherm 45 and I am very happy with it. I regularly cut 1/4 to 1/2" steel it works great. glad my wife talked me into spending a little extra to go up a size from the 30. i think hypertherm is really the leader with plasma. I have used a hypertherm 30 and liked it but I think it was working hard on 3/8 plate. have also run a big Esab and liked it but seemed less dealers than hypertherm.

only down side to the 45 is even with it turned down you gotta move when you cut auto bodies because its thin. on the other hand if you're going to cut aluminum 30 would be minimum I think.

I bought my Hypertherm 65 for 1K "new" on ebay, just have to be willing to watch for deals. Sometimes I wish I would have held out for an 85, just never know when you may need that extra cutting ability.

You want my Longevity Forcecut 50i? It works fine, I've done lots of cutting with it up to half inch. But it's Chinese (a bigger negative for me these days) and I don't cut metal enough anymore to need both a torch and a plasma.

I have the miller 375x but in retrospect, I use my vertical bandsaw to cut stuff to weld, and a cordless recip to cut stuff out. At this point, the only time I can't live without a plasma cutter is cutting rusted nuts and bolts off deep inside a car or truck.
