I bought myself a Miller 2050 plasma a year ago for my birthday. It was a leftover so I got it brand new in the box from Keen Gas for $1500. Killer deal in my opinion. It works great and I'm getting better at freehand cuts but circles are always a challenge. My wife got me a set of these plasma stencils from 911 Motorsports. I haven't used them yet but I'm happy with the quality and have no doubt they will be perfect for me. $45 well spent.

They are made from 1/8" steel and etched with size and hash marks to make lining them up on centers easy. They are designed to be used with a drag tip and the outside arc is 2" larger that the hole that is marked.

Okay, this is a pretty slick idea. I could see some definite advantages to this for making commonly used brackets. Do they have some triangular plates for gussets too?

back in the day I made many different common tabs i used in the shop to do this. basically I made a set of them that were all undersized. Clamp them down and drag around the edge. I will see if I still have some of them and post up a pic. Its been years since using them. LOL probably have not used them since 2003ish.

not a bad deal! i've been eyeing the rotten leonard tracing setup for awhile, just need to clear up a dedicated table for it and stop being such a cheapass.

Stooge, thanks for the link I ordered one last night. This looks like it might be pretty darn handy and with that cheap plasma deal going on will be able to dedicate that machine to this tool. Hopefully both items work half way decent.

I have a Miller magnetic circle cutter for larger radii. I wanted to plasma a smaller circle a while back (1-1/4" IIRC), and used a hole saw in a piece of plywood for a stencil. It worked pretty good, but would probably burn up over time. I only needed to cut one hole.

This may sound like a stupid question but I just got a cutmaster42, is there anything out there that's a great straight edge and most importantly to keep the torch at 90 degrees? I used a 1/8 thick *3'' flat bar today and it made a decent cut. Is that the only way to go?

I thought that when using the plasma cutter you were not supposed to use steel or something conductive as a guide. I read this years ago.
I usually make my templates from 1/4" hardboard for that reason. That and it's a heck of a lot easier to work than steel to get the right contour.
I am definitely curios if I should make it from steel. Let me know.

Why are you not making your own tools? You have the plasma cutter, go use it. Well spent money would been $45 worth of scrap metal used to cut one of all of these suggested tools above & have metal to test them.

I'm thinking that is the same "rotten Leonard" as the guy with that screen name over on the HAMB. Keith

Thats where i came across his site while looking at the bomber seats and lug pattern templates he sells, i wouldnt hesitate to order from there.
