Plastic conduit in wall?

Can you use schedule 80 pvc conduit in a wall? or does it have to be steel. Going to run a subpanel at the back end of my shop from the front panel, I have some #2 wire so it won't cost anything but a panel and some conduit and will save me a lot of runs of smaller wire from the main panel in the shop. Just wondering if I could save money and run schedule 80 pvc in the wall or if it has to be metal? It's a run of about 50 feet.

You don't need schedule 80 unless exposed, by local code usually. Schedule 40 is sufficient.

You might consider flex too. I'm not sure which is better as I don't really like either one. I guess given a choice I'd use the PVC too, although the flex would be a lot easier. You are going to have to drill some big holes, I hope you have 2X6 construction, otherwise you are going to weaken the wall seriously. I'd try to go up through the top plate and over through the joists and down again to avoid going through the wall. That's why you may want the flex.
