I need to install some plastic rivets for a repair I need to do. I'm assuming that they can't be set with a "normal" rivet gun used for aluminum and steel rivets right? I've had a few times in the past where I could have used a plastic rivet gun also for bumpers and fender liners. So I think it's time to get one. Searching amazon and parts stores websites it doesn't look like there are many options out there. Either really expensive or really cheap. I don't think I would use it enough to justify the expensive ones. HF has one for 13 bucks after coupon, http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-riveter-with-40-industrial-strength-poly-rivets-97757.html. It has good reviews on the HF site. Is it good enough for home use or should I look into some of the more expensive kits?

Amazon has a marson but one review says they are made in china now. There are a lot more expensive ones in the 60-100 dollar range but I think they are out of my price range for how little I will use it, unless the HF ones are complete garbage.

So will the HF plastic rivet gun work for the DIYer? Anyone have the HF plastic rivet gun?

I have used the HF version and it does it's job. I have never used any other brand to compare how it functions though.

This is the one i use. Had it for years, never had a problem, plus its cheap

That's the marson I was looking at on amazon and the reviews say it's made in china. Which isn't a deal breaker for me but it's twice the price after shipping of the HF one.

Is there an advantage to one style or the other? The HF one looks like it could get in more places vs the marson with the longer handles.

this is the one I always get asked for. I know you said you were going with the hf one, but I didn't see this one mentioned. Says 'Made in Taiwan' just like the 48000.

I would guess that one would be a little nicer but it's also 4 times the price. Not sure if it would be worth the added cost or not for occasional use?

The HF is made in Taiwan, at least it used to be, it is very good, identical to the expensive name brand one someone borrowed and needed more than I did many years ago.

Get the HF it's one of the best items they sell the rivets are ok and will do but the name brand rivets are a little better
