Plastic storage case for sockets?

Has anyone heard of anywhere you can buy bare plastic set cases?
Reason im asking is i have a set of Proto 3/8 deep impact sockets and the way the stay attached to the rail is pitiful!

How many sockets do you need room for ? I use a battery case for 18650 batteries that I picked up for heap on ebay in the car for lug nut bolts. Works great

It is a 3/8 drive set 15 piece that goes up to 1 inch. My SK 1/2 drive set came with a nice carrying case i wish i could find the came thing for my 3/8. I'm tempted to buy a throw away chinese set just for the case!

Try eBay for some empty cases. SK, Craftsman, Gearwrench all have the blow molded cases, and sometimes they sell for cheap, your rat may not fit but the sockets should.

Sears has two sizes of small plastic boxes. I have one of each size for my 1/4" and 3/8" socket sets I keep in the car. They also have two sizes of Truck boxes made to fit under truck seats. They make nice socket set containers for larger sets of 3/8" and 1/2" drive.

I somehow ended up with a drawer from one of those plastic tool kits with the slide out drawers. It says Benchmark and a set of my 1/4" stuff fills it up. It has spots for 3/8ths drive stuff to but I used it to include more 1/4" drive stuff,both 6 point and 12 point! Both metric and SAE, deep and shallow...even a little pocket for Universal joints and some Torx and Allen bits.
It drops right in the drawer of my top box and has a little room in front for the extra long extensions. Not all the tools are a perfect fit but they are marked, neat and complete!

Kinda keep my eye out at garage sales for other cheapo boxes.

If you're not dead set on a plastic box, try repurposing a metal box. I took this 11-1/2" x 7-3/4" x 1-7/8" cash box and cut back the main till to hold my 1/2" deeps and built a little 2-compartment tray for the ratchet and for misc sockets, extension, and swivel. I drilled out the lock cuz it didn't come with a key and I don't need to lock it anyhow, then I took an old key and ground it down and epoxied it in place. A little magnet holds it closed. Nice and sturdy, but 11 lbs loaded so I'll really have to think through the handle I want to put on it.

It's for my road set of tools. I was considering an ammo box, etc until I came across this perfectly sized box.

I just looked at the lock-a-socket and that looks like the answer. The deal is this i have a millwaukee fuel 3/8 impact (probably the handiest tool i own) and the case it came with has no room for a rail of sockets like all the blowmolded milwaukee cases. I have a rail of deepwell impact sockets for it but the rail its on is a joke, basitally i think the thick impact sockets are far too heavy for the rail to hold, but if i can put a few sockets on the lockasocket rail and swing them around like furious the monkey boy i think i'll be alright!

I've seen guys do the expanding foam with pliers and such in a drawer. You can do it with a case of some sort (kind of like blow molded except in foam). Should work well for a CUSTOM solution. Might not translate into use with sockets or ratchets that aren't molded into the foam.

The other side of the case you'll need to fill with foam also to keep the stuff in place when closed. Easy breezy man.
