Hello, I am wondering if anyone has ever used a plastic welder and how the project turned out.

I have a like new older model Laramy 20-300 with extra heating elements and before I buy any welding rods just wondering what to expect.

For those who have never seen one it is a small compressor built in to a tool box with a hose and a soldering type heated head that the plastic welding rods go through.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

I have been fabricating clean room and plating equipment for over 10 years. I primarily weld polypropylene and PVC, although occasionally I use polyethylene. I have always used Seeley guns, although occasionally a Horrible Freight gun, which uses parts that are interchangeable with the Seeley. The guns I use are hooked to the main air line and regulated down to 3 or 4 psi.

You don't mention what you are going to be welding. I buy my welding rod in coils, and I always use a speed tip. I fabricate, so I know what my materials are. If you are trying to do repairs, it can be very difficult to determine what the plastic is. The last gun I bought came from eBay and it came with a box of mixed rods. I have no idea what different plastics are in the mix.

Harvy,

Thanks for the reply, the unit was to good to pass up, it has several new heating elements with it and appears to have little or no use.

I am not sure what application I could use it for yet.

I am not sure of all the possibilities of plastic welding or when I would have a need to weld plastic that would be pratical.

Thanks
