I agree. I buy all my dip from DYC. I think people see something that is cheap and easy so they automatically think it's ****.

I'm sure there are plenty of hack jobs being done with it, but that's a matter of the user having bad taste and using silly colors and/or doing a bad job.

I think I found the painted retriever. is there a reward?

I tried it to do the spokes (red) on my track wheels. First, it needs to be applied THICK if you want to peel it off "easily". Second it's difficult to do a partial area because it bonds at the edge of the tape causing it to peel as soon as the tape is removed. Third, it's a textured-type finish so unless you use black it's hard to clean all those little nooks.

After doing one wheel I decided it wasn't going to work for me so I just peeled it back off. I used almost a whole can one one wheel so it was thick and easy to remove. Here's are a few pics:

To keep from having problems with tape removal I did the note card way. You lay note cards between the wheel and the tire vertically. This will leave a small space between the two and allow room for the dip to not stick to. I also lightly ran a blade between the two.

Lots of thin coats are the best way to do it. I did the last coat thicker to help with removal. I did a DIY on a BMW forum about it, and found that this was the best way to do it on wheels with some trial and error.

My problem was not between the wheel and the tire. I wanted red spokes with the polished lip so I taped off the lip. Lining the lip with note cards wouldn't have worked for what I wanted.

Ah miss read that. I would run a blade down the edge just hard enough to go through the dip and not the tape.

You need to put it on thick and pull the tape right away. I made that mistake before too. There's a DIY for doing tape work on dipyourcar.com. Probably won't have spectacular results, but it's worth trying to see if you like the look of it, then you can go with more expensive routes.
