I found 3 different sets of Mayhew brand punches on display. All USA made. It seems like 80% or more of TSC's hand tools are Chinese. So it really throws me for a loop when I find something American made. I understand Mayhew is a fairly well - respected brand on garage journal.

Good to know, I never look at hand tools in there, have to look now.

Punches are mostly machine made. So it’s cheaper to be made USA. Even in Home Depot, a lot of them are USA made by dasco.

For those who are not familiar with tractor supply, they mostly sell cat and dog food. Along with kitty litter. They have bolts and oil too. Not much actually related to tractors unfortunately.
It's a harbor freight for people that think they want to play farmer.

And they have nuts/bolts by the pound

Just be careful shopping there since i can find most items on Amazon for MUCH cheaper. I needed another air hose coupling and stopped at TSC to buy one but they were $10 each!!! Jumped on Amazon and order a pack of 10 for $10, and they're better quality. Many things i find at TSC i will search on amazon and 99% of the time it's much cheaper. Unless you need it that day, TSC is not the place for bargains.

Tractor Supply tends to target medium-to-small out-of-the-way market venues/demographics that do not have access to the larger big-box stores (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.), and their inventory is chosen and priced accordingly. The first time I encountered one it reminded me of a junior-league Orchard Supply Hardware - same mix of products but without the knowledgeable clerks and immense fastener selection.

To those of us in rural locations that are starved for a prime-time retail outlet, it can be a genuine oasis, but - as previously mentioned - buyer beware.

They specialize in small farm supplies. They do have small-tractor, lawn equipment, and trailers parts, and a good selection of hardware. They carry pet food, horse supplies, salt licks, bedding, and that kind of thing. They also have a decent selection of workwear (i.e. Carhartt, and boots (i.e. Wolverine).

Their tool selection used to be pretty terrible, but they have added some good brands, with Mayhew being a newer addition. They have a lot of Apex/Crescent tools, but I have seen a decent selection of Channellock tools.

Their store brand is JobSmart, which is sometimes pretty poor, but sometimes descent (depending on the supplier). The deals on these can be too good to pass up. I got a set of long Ball-Allen keys (Inch and Metric) for $6, a set of offset box end wrenches (SAE and Metric) for $14, and some diamond tipped screwdrivers (standard & Phillips) that are made in Taiwan for $11. Not the best quality by any stretch, but not the worst I've seen either.

They have a decent selection of power tools. Porter-Cable is going to be their exclusive power tool brand soon, but they also carry DeWalt, and a couple of other brands. I think they are trying to reposition themselves as more of a hardware/DIY store that has farm stuff.

They have stayed afloat in my rural area but are by no means what they used to be. Their clothing is pretty good quality actually but the quality of a lot of their merchandise can be questionable.

Bubba hit it spot on. We've got a Lowes, HD, HF, and a couple of pretty good hardware stores even though we are a relatively small market. TSC is expensive but has the best and only supply of small farm stuff -- trailer parts and tires, pet and livestock feed, welding and farm shop equipment, chemicals in larger sizes, generic tractor and implement parts (seats, top links), electric motors, galvanized bins, fencing, etc.

TSC usually carries Mayhew Select; not the same quality as the Mayhew Pro line.

Tractor Supply is for horse people with a 5 acre "farm."

We take the dogs there for innoculation day once a year but I've never found anything worth buying. Even dog food is way high.

I guess you have to live where they have tractors to have a Tractor Supply. Makes sense. Don't see many of these in Scottsdale. BMW and Benz dealerships got those by the dozen.
There are actually a few in AZ. I believe one is in fountain hills. They are relatively new here, I've lived here all my life and as far as I know they only showed up within the last year or two.

Do a search. I opened their site and stopped counting at 20 TSC stores in Arizona.

They have been here the four years we’ve spent winters here, at least, so they’re not newcomers.

We've had TSC for a while but finally got a Rural King in the old Kmart building.

Rural King is kind like if Kmart decided to let their home & garden section take over the entire floorplan.

There are a few RK stores in Mo, but otherwise they seem to be east of the Mississippi for the most part. In, Oh, Mi, Il. and as far south as Fl, with some in Pa, etc.

Nothing west of Mo, as far as I can tell.

I have a TSC about a mile from me. I've only been in there a few times, and every time there are only another 3-4 customers in the store, which is giant. I can't see how they stay in business given the size of the store and the small volume of customers. This store is in the "city", less than a quarter mile from Home Depot, but there are farms if you go a few miles outside of town.

I herd them called tough shi.. charlies because they don’t have half the stuff you go in there for. I do like to check out the tool bins by the door when you walk in. The new one down the street from me sells welders but no gas.

I go there for bulk bird seed, dog treats (they have a large variety), and for clothes/boots when on sale (bought some PJs and a dog bed Monday).

During the evening or on Sundays they're the only place to get screws or bolts. I did buy a Porter Cable corded impact from there years ago and it has worked well. Need a foot valve for your well on Sunday night? They've got it, but you're gonna pay a good bit more for it.
