Hi All,

Thanks for reading. I have a question which I am hoping some of you may be able to help with.

Let me first describe what my project is:

24 x 32 x 10 garage (post frame construction)
5" concrete floor
I plan to install the wall girts like book shelves, in between the 6x6 posts to facilitate easier insulation and interior finishing.

So with that being said, I'm planning on installing batten insulation horizontally between the posts in the walls.

Here's my question, I want to be able to wash vehicles inside the garage so I am putting a floor drain in but I am concerned about the interior finish getting wet, as well as the wood down where the posts and skirt board will meet the concrete floor. I was thinking of using corrugated steel inside the building on the ceiling and walls for a finish (white). This would be the same material that is on the outside of the building. I've seen it done before and it really makes for a nice interior. The water shouldn't be a problem if it gets on the walls since it is exterior grade steel, but what about when it runs down the wall and hits the concrete. At this point it will be very near the wood, and it may collect in the J channel.

I plan to use an electric pressure washer and be careful, but inevitably I'm sure that water will hit the walls to a degree.

Any ideas???

Could I run the steel down to the concrete and then caulk it with some type of silicone material?

This is the way I did mine, and the way I've seen most done around here. It sounds like it fits your general plan:

There is a pressure treated 2x6 base board all around the bottom of the floor. J-channel on top of the 2x6, and then the steel walls.
In a "wet" situation you could run a bead of caulk around the bottom of the baseboard just for a bit of security.
I see no reason that this won't work to guard against the occasional indirect water.

My walls are post frame with horizontal girts on 16" centers, horizontal fiberglass batts, 4mil vapor barrier, and then just for a bit extra insulation(R3 or 4??) and sound deadening I put 1/2" foam board over the entire wall before applying the baseboard and steel.

...not sure how DIY-able this is, but where we work, we regularly make walls/panels for such applications, based on SIP structures, but laminated with, say a 2.0mm GRP skin. Suitably sealed to the floor with an angle flashing and sealant, it will last , well, forever.

The GRP I speak of is not the mat and fibre you lay up, but coils bought in, used primarily for commercial vehicle body, or refrigerated transport manufacture. You could look locally and see if there's anyone in that trade near you. If the GRP is too hard to word onsite, you could get it laminated onto sheets of OSB that you fix to your walls. The stuff is pressure-washable itself, with no ill effects. I'll try and root out some pics tomorrow of ones we've made.
