Garage coming along nicely.

Update 8/13/14 pic attached of garage progress:

8" slab 4,000 psi Concrete with rebar

Hi Guys,

I've attached a jpgs of my garage plans. I hope it's legible. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions based on what you see here. This is my first garage build and I'm not sure what I 'm missing.

Thanks!

A34....Welcome to Garage Journal. Hell, I'm jealous already. From what I see, I don't see a thing wrong with it. Did you do the drawing or have it done by someone? It looks like it's going to be a fantastic garage, that's for sure. As long as you have a section tall enough for a lift, then to me it looks perfect.

Make sure you start a build thread when you break ground. I for one will be looking forward to it.

I think you need another overhead door in your storage bay. Someday you will decide
you should have done it. Also , it will balance out the front.

Hard to find much to critique with such a great looking structure. If I had to come up something I'd take a look at your soils and water table. With your exterior grade so much higher than your interior space i'd think carefully about drainage and waterproofing.

I've got to admit that I'm intrigued by the armory. I'd certainly understand if you choose not to elaborate but I'd love to hear more.

Thanks! Yes, I am working with an architect. The right 2 bays are 12' ceilings.

"Very nice! With the size of that roof and the pitch of it, seems like there is a lot of room overhead for storage, or ceiling height. Are you planning anything such as vaulted ceiling or attic trusses? "

I will have limited storage space in the attic. It uses 2 piece trusses.

"the roof the drawing says ridge vent and gable vent, but don't use both or the gable vents will extremely limit the advantage of having a ridge vent. "

Thanks, I think I heard that somewhere else to.

"First of all I would rename the armory to storage. No use advertising to the world your stash."

DOH!

"With your exterior grade so much higher than your interior space i'd think carefully about drainage and waterproofing. "

Yes, thanks, that is something I'm planning on. It will get a lot of drainage as it's built into the side of a hill.

"I've got to admit that I'm intrigued by the armory. I'd certainly understand if you choose not to elaborate but I'd love to hear more. "

My architect found the plans on a FEMA website for a bomb shelter. Steel encased with steel room. Security system and hvac of course. Not really that expensive.

Thanks guys !!
