I moved into my new house and garage last june. After finishing up 90% of the inside of the house, i will finally habe time to work on my garage. The inside is insulated and drywalled. The main garage door is pretty new and insulated. There's a party door that opens up to the yard bu that will need to be replaced. I want to paint the inside of the garage but i don't want to go with the typical white or gray. Any recommendations? Anyone have any pictures of they're brave color choice? I hope this isn't too much of silly question haha

DeWalt yellow looks pretty good, and it's a bright color so it'd be easier to see inside the garage.

Or if you're a Bears fan, do orange and dark blue.

I tried a blue/gray on one wall but it was too dark. But maybe a two tone would work. Definitely not pink. I have a buddy from Rochester that's a raiders fan, I would definitely not give him the pleasure of seeing raiders colors in my garage. I probably just need a bunch more lighting in my garage.

I painted mine grey because I thought it would be nice/cool and I'm a cheap ***. I poured a bunch of left over paint from the last house into a bucket and got it to a nice grey color.
At first I liked it but when I see the house with the garage open it clashes with the house.

If I were to do it again, I would paint the floor a dark tan with speckles and the walls a sand color.
It would still look good but it would match with the house better

Im judging you.

Just kidding.

Light grey walls and white trim/ceiling here. The 'white' is just kilz primer at the moment. A true white paint will make the grey contrast much more as the kilz is more of a offwhite/tannish color.

I am a fan of super high gloss white walls ceiling trim everything, high gloss cleans up very easy, dust doesn't stick to it very well. I go high gloss white so I get maximum light reflection so its easier to see.

I'm in the "don't bother" category, there's so much **** on my walls that it would have been useless to paint. Sure it'd be nice to have a nice uniform color, but the bottom line is that when I'm in the garage, the walls are so far out of my mind that it's not even funny. I can't see the majority of them, and I prefer to look at all of my tools and shelves and stuff, that's all way more interesting than the walls. Plus, I'm constantly moving stuff around, so having to patch and repaint all of the holes would be futile.

The ceiling though, now that would be nice. Whoever put the ceiling in did a half-*** drywall finish job, the tape is peeling here and there and looks like ****. But, again, I have so much stuff hung up there that to take it all down to do the proper job on the ceiling would be a huge undertaking, and I'm too old and lazy for that kind of nonsense.

I'm not sure people know what the party door is. For the uninitiated - we have long rectangular lots (generally) with garages at the back and the popular thing is to have a garage door at the front that opens up to the yard (no driveway) so that the garage can be used as a party shelter for the back yard when no cars are inside.

The first time I read this, I thought you said fifty...

Whatever color you find in Lowes paint clearance for $10/gal.

Great idea. In our area, we can get recycled/re-mixed latex paint in a ton of colors.

The biggest thing is probably not the color but the finish. Definitely go with a gloss, so it can be easily cleaned!

Yeah I should have been more clear. I'm planning on putting a stone patio outside the party door along with my new to me weber summit s-670. We have a double lot with a massive yard (for the Chicago area at least) so i planbon doing a lot of outdoor entertaining. When I do the party door is going to be open, most likely.

You want to use light or neutral colors and not dark or bold colors, at least not on the entire wall. Dark colors will absorb light and make the space feel dark and small. Bright, bold colors like orange, yellow, red, etc. may look cool but they are hard on the eyes after a while.

The traditional combination of gray or blue on the bottom and white on the top is tried and true because it has a purpose. The dark color on the bottom hides dirt and scuff marks while the white on top reflects light and makes the space feel larger and cleaner.

You could try a combination of green on the bottom and tan on the top, or something like that, at least that is what I would do.

Nigel's is black(or gray) and red IIRC. Nice looking. He needs more light to see than traditional colors.

I compromised:

As you can see, lots of stuff covering the walls. But that will change once the extension is done. Then nothing on the walls but paint. The stuff will go in the extension.

Walls? What are these things you call "walls" in your garage? I think my garage must have some. BUT they are not visible. Maybe they went somewhere.

You are indeed a lucky man to have a garage large enough to have exposed walls.

I KNOW my garage had them. I remember seeing them back when I bought the place. Come to think of it, it had a floor too back then. I wonder what ever happened to them.

This is cool. I've always been a fan of Sinclair. Thanks guys I'm definitely getting some good ideas. And if snap on wanted to give me a whole wall of pink boxes, I'd take them. Wouldn't you?

You owe us each $5.00 for that visual assault...

Tommy

One of Bill's better posts (I kid)

Not ashamed to admit i wouldn't mind having most of those things, in pink or not. Of the 'safety' colours I always go for pink. When I worked out of a gang box that was my colour and not just cause nobody else wanted it. I like things that are pink, and I'm ok with that.

Jim I'm still really fond of your file cabinets. Inspiring me to move one of mine up to the garage after I clear out some tool chests.
