I was given this drill press. It hadn't been used in many years and the chuck was stuck, I sprayed some wd40 on it and it freed up pretty good, When I first turned it on, it was running ver slowly, After a couple minutes, it started running at a normal speed. The chuck diconnected itself from the shaft. This thing feel kind of toyish as it has lots of plastic bits and not much power. Anyone know what it is? there are not tags anywhere, not even on the motor. I like fixing stuff, but know a lot about drill presses. Any help would be appreciated.dp 2.jpgdp1.jpgdp3.jpg

Looks like a generic Chinese 5 speed drill press. They sold them under names like Cummins or American Tool Exchange. It has a distinctive belt cover that's kind of Art Deco which is pretty nice. Not sure which chinese factory made it though. It might be a good candidate to upgrade with free treadmill motor.

Had one of those I bought at the Cummings roaming tent tool sale many years ago. Even at fifty bucks it still wasn't worth the money. As the OP stated feels like a toy and is under powered.
