Please Help ID Vise

My friend was given a vise. Unless we over looking it no brand marking. So we don't know the brand. It is made in USA and appears to all be there except end cap and 1 jaw. I think it a Wilton, but not sure. Any help on Brand, Model, year etc would be great appreciated.

(It appears to be in good condition other than missing parts.

Also can end cap be bought, made. any help on this be great too. Thanks

Definitely a Wilton Tradesman 1765. That one is fairly recent production...mid-1990s or newer. Unscrew the slide all the way, flip it over, wipe off the flat key on the bottom and there will be a date stamp showing month and year.

They don't cast their name into them because they are sold as both a Wilton product and as a Snap-On Product. They paint some green and put a Wilton label on them, or a red and put a Snap-On label on them.

As with most of the Tradesman line, that one needs new jaws. They use sintered metal (compressed powder) jaws to save a few bucks, and they regularly crack at the bolt holes, which appears to have happened to that one.

The best replacement jaws are made by KMScott here (wiltonviseparts.net) but another member also sells quality tool steel jaws (Autopts) that are also good. Either are much better than the factory jaws, and very reasonably priced.

The end caps are a pain because for that model the only source is Wilton, and they don't sell just the cap...you have to buy an assembly that includes the several parts, and costs about $40. Some folks use a large automotive freeze plug, or a pipe/fence cap of the correct diameter.
