These pictures were pulled from an internet image search and I can't figure out for the life of me what the latching end cap is from. I've searched everything from PVC components to well caps to electrical boxes to lockout kits and I keep turning up empty.

I'm trying to make a decent roof carrier for my fly fishing rods and this piece could be perfect for the reel end. I initially thought it was pvc because the body of the tube obviously is. However, a close look at the close up picture reveals a small chip in the material (upper left area) that exposes what I think is bare aluminum. Could this be something for a marine application? Please Help! I can't figure out what this is or where to order it!

Subscribed. I have never seen that product and I do a lot of fly fishing. If it is commercially available I would be on board too. I can't imagine that it was made for anything else so I bet it was purposely designed for fly rods.
The only thing that makes me doubt that is that it looks like it doesn't have that secure of a padlock accommodation

Ya you could only get a small lock in there. I was wondering if it had room to install a barrel lock but I'm more concerned about keeping my rods assembled when spot hopping. I can move them back in the car for security overnight when I'm out on my trips.

Ejmo2, it would appear as I these were custom made. Here is a link to the guy who made them. http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-192171.html

I read though that whole thread about 2 weeks ago. Toward the end of the multi page thread, there was a guy who tried to make them from a mold using fiberglass. I think he only made 2 before he gave up due to time and budget constraints. The original idea for his mold came from the above pics the I pulled from that exact thread.

I'm trying to find the original source, if there ever was one.

Almost looks like something you would see on a service truck for the power company or possibly phone company... I forgot the name of a couple popular brands that make general shelves, ladder racks, etc, etc... I'm sure they have an extensive catalog.

This could be a job for a 3D printer... lol.

I would try to use an electric service weatherhead. They mount to standard size pvc and there must be large ones available that you could add a hinge to after a few cuts

From the shape, I would guess made for fly fishing rods with the **** end reel.
Not the regular construction pipe cap.
Check out a fishing mag site.
