PLEASE HELP IDENTIFY THIS MYSTERY TOOL

Alright fellas, (and the 3 ladies), got another stumper here. It appears to be factory made, chrome plated top plate, pointy bottom (assuming it's the bottom), square shank and the threaded rod section is squared off as well. Plastic adjusting knob (guessing earliest probable production late 1950's early 1960's). Top plate looks original and factory style rivets, though maybe there may have been some sort of covering??? It is not stainless or aluminum. The square lower shank does not have any set screw markings. Zero stamped markings, maybe there was a sticker at some point. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
